Whitey Bulger Caught Masturbating In His Cell, Placed In Solitary Confinement For A Month As Punishment

Whitey Bulger was caught masturbating in his prison cell with the lights on and was placed in solitary confinement for one month as a punishment. The 85-year-old mobster from South Boston is serving a life sentence for murder after being on the run for 16 years.

James “Whitey” Bulger was captured in Santa Monica, California, in 2011, the Boston Globe reports. He is incarcerated at the Coleman II U.S. Penitentiary in Sumterville, Florida.

He was reportedly caught by a corrections officer masturbating in his prison cell with his lights on around 3 a.m. on June 1 of last year. The officer was making his routine rounds when he noticed Bulger breaking the “no sexual activity by inmates” rule. The infraction is reportedly regarded as a highly severe offense.

The former mob boss said he is innocent of the masturbation charges and was set up by the corrections officer.

“I’ve never had any charges like that in my whole life. I’m 85 years old. My sex life is over. I volunteer to take polygraph test to prove my answer to this charge.”

The report by the corrections officer stated that he walked inside Whitey Bulger‘s prison cell and saw the elderly inmate “touching his exposed genitals with his left hand,” the Daily Mail notes. The officer reported the masturbating infraction to his supervisor.

Bulger was then reportedly placed in solitary confinement for 30 days and had both his email and commissary privileges suspended for 120 days as punishment. Whitey claimed he had done nothing wrong and did not deserve to be placed in solitary confinement, according to his disciplinary report, that was shared by the Boston Globe.

The convicted gangster claimed that he was not masturbating but was only “administering medicated powder to his genitals for an irritation he found too embarrassing to report to the prison medical department.”

The embarrassing genital issue was a yeast infection, according to Whitey Bulger. He said he developed the problem because of sweating caused by prison pants that do not offer the proper type of ventilation for the humid Florida weather.

“I ended up with a condition and I’m embarrassed to go to medical because they have female nurses over there,” Bulger reportedly told prison officials.

Whitey said that he purchased seven bottles of medicated powder designed to treat fungus form the commissary. He said that he keeps his lights on in his prison cell due to the residual effects from an experiment with LSD he was tricked into participating in during the 1950s. The LSD project was allegedly conducted while he served a prison sentence for bank robbery.

Bulger went on to claim that he and other inmates were offered a sentence reduction for participating in the LSD experiment. He said that the convicts who were injected with LSD were told their efforts were aiding the Emory University schizophrenia cure research project. Whitey went on to add that later that the inmates found out the LSD experiment was part of the Project MKUltra program to develop mind-control weapons for the CIA.

Prison officials did not buy Bulger’s masturbation defense argument,

“The action/behavior on the part of any inmate to engage in a sexual act interferes with the orderly running of the institution,” the prison hearing committee ruled.

Bulger has appealed the decision and is fighting to get the masturbating violation removed from his record. Female corrections officers and staffers have reportedly complained in the past that appropriate action was not taken when inmates intentionally masturbate in front of them. A class action lawsuit over the allegations made by the female employees is currently pending before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

While serving the month in solitary confinement, Whitey was placed in a separate housing unit where he was kept inside a cell for 23 hours per day. He was allowed outdoors for one hour of recreation each day.
