Toni Henthorn: ‘Dateline’ NBC Airs Rocky Mountain Death Fall Of Eye Doctor In Colorado

Toni Henthorn, the woman who police say was pushed to her death four years ago from a cliff at Rocky Mountain National Park, will be the next interesting case to air on Dateline NBC.

This Friday, Dateline NBC will allow viewers to trace detectives’ steps as they review the case in the episode “Over The Edge,” which originally aired in 2012. According to the Denver Channel, Toni Henthorn’s husband, Harold Henthorn, was ultimately convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, but his supporters say that he didn’t do it. As always, Dateline NBC will use experts, law enforcement officials, and friends and family members to shape the story. The presentation will also most likely include an update on the case.

But, what started out as a beautiful vacation for these two lovers ended up being a nightmare, which left Toni Henthorn at the bottom of a cliff and her husband fighting for his innocence for years to come, according to the Denver Post.

Dateline NBC will detail how it wasn’t a cut and dry case for the police. Taking a look at the scene and listening to Harold Henthorn’s explanation of how his wife fell, it could have been a plausible explanation. And it might have been deemed a horrible accident had it not been for one small detail in Henthorn’s past — he had another wife to die in a tragic accident.

In 1995, Lynn Henthorn, whose full name was Sandra Lynn Rishell Henthorn, died while trying to change a car tire at night as Harold Henthorn stood by. A coroner ruled Lynn’s death an accident at the time, but family members were puzzled as to why Harold would allow his wife to perform such a task in the dark.

Toni Henthorn’s family always had a bad feeling about Harold, a man who seemed to have a fraudulent air to him, judging by the way he talked. He also seemed to control Toni’s every move, even monitoring conversations that she had with friends and family. An article published by People described just how Harold Henthorn met Lynn and Toni.

“Henthorn met Sandra Lynn Rishell() at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. She was majoring in social work and Henthorn in geology, but they connected, friends say, over ‘her Christian faith.’ The pair married in September 1982.() Mississippi ophthalmologist Toni Bertolet connected with Henthorn in 1999 on the dating site christianmatchmaker.com, and they dated long-distance before marrying in September 2000. ‘She was lonely and a little vulnerable,’ recalls her brother Todd Bertolet. ‘When that’s the case, you overlook some character flaws.'”

Authorities believe that Toni Henthorn was lured up the mountain by her husband and then pushed to her death. The motive: a life insurance policy totaling $4.7 million. He also cashed in on the life insurance policy of Sandra Lynn Henthorn, which totaled a whopping $600,000 or more.
