Mortal Kombat Secret Menus Found, Video Details Access
Mortal Kombat secret menus have been found years after the game’s origin. On Sunday, details on how to access the newly discovered secret menus were uploaded to YouTube. Since the first game in the franchise series was released in 1992, gamers have been unaware of the Mortal Kombat secret menus for more than two decades.
Either a lot of fans still play the classic Mortal Kombat games, or having secret menus to work with suddenly renewed a lot of interest in the fighting Midway Games series. This can be deduced from the fact that a video uploaded to YouTube on Sunday outlining exactly how to access the new Mortal Kombat secret menus has garnered a lot of attention, to the tune of over 600,000 views so far.

YouTube user YourMKArcadeSource shared his discovery of all of the Mortal Kombat secret menus via a YouTube channel that appears to be regularly updated with tips and information, mainly revolving around arcade games that date back to the early 1990s. A good percentage of videos on YourMKArcadeSource upload list have to do with the three original games in the Mortal Kombat series, which makes sense considering his username.
As your Mortal Kombat arcade source, this particular YouTube user details in a 10-minute video how to access the Mortal Kombat secret menus, starting with the first Mortal Kombat. According to YourMKArcadeSource, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, widely publicized the fact that there are several hidden secrets within all three Mortal Kombat games. Ed Boon himself has actually tweeted that there are still items within Mortal Kombat that hadn’t yet been discovered.

YourMKArcadeSource believes Boon was talking about the newly discovered Mortal Kombat secret menus, named after co-creator Ed J. Boon as the EJB menus.
“They have just now been discovered, and I will show you exactly how to access these hidden menus, what they entail, and what you can expect to find when you access them.”
Accessing the secret menus is reportedly possible even with a hacked version of Mortal Kombat by tapping both the player one and player two block buttons in a specific complex sequence until the secret menus unlock. Boon programmed these Mortal Kombat secret menus to show character endings without having to actually play each character to the very end. According to Fox Sports, the secret menus actually became more elaborate as the game progressed through Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3.
The original Mortal Kombat secret menus allow gamers to cheat their name high on the player leaderboard, and secret menus in Mortal Kombat 3 actually go as far as to feature a Galaga game within the Mortal Kombat game. Other features of the secret menus include finding hidden characters, uncovering messages from Boon himself, running diagnostic tests, and setting the game to free play mode.

Mortal Kombat secret menus are only available on arcade cabinets of the game, which most people don’t have access to, unlike more widely available console and personal computer games. This may be the reason why the secret menus have gone undetected for so long. Maxim reports that members of The Cutting Room Floor, a site dedicated to discovering hidden, unused, and uncut content from video games, are actually taking credit for first finding the Mortal Kombat secret menus back in October.
YourMKArcadeSource admits that he didn’t realize the Mortal Kombat secret menus had already been discovered, saying that he only wanted to report on the codes being discovered and show them in action. He went to say that he also wanted to give a little backstory for people who might not know it.
Newer versions of Mortal Kombat are still being released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment with the most recent version titled Mortal Kombat X in 2015. But for those more nostalgic Mortal Kombat gamers, they now have a reason to re-visit the past with news of the recently discovered Mortal Kombat secret menus.
