Chrissy Teigen Defends Her And John Legend’s Choice To Choose Baby’s Sex With IVF

Chrissy Teigen is known for being forthright, and sharing everything that is going on in her life with her fans, for better or worse. And when fans on social media turn on her, she tends to take it with a grain of salt and a sense of humor. This was no different this time, when she shared that she had gotten pregnant via IVF and husband John Legend, and that they chose the sex of the baby, which will be a girl.

According to the Inquisitr, Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend are big foodies, but during her pregnancy, Teigen indulged in some of her cravings, which were not necessarily healthy or highbrow, like giant bowls of cereal like Fruity Pebbles and Captain Crunch. Fans came out to let her know she was doing her baby a disservice.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Chrissy Teigen and John Legend chose the sex of their baby that they had implanted via IVF, and are now dealing with some serious Twitter backlash as a result. Teigen, who is a beautiful model who truly likes to live out loud, has been candid about her fertility struggles, and her use of fertility drugs in an effort to get pregnant.

“I’ve made this decision,” Teigen said. “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’ ”

But Teigen then had to deal with people saying that she and Legend were playing God in choosing the sex of their baby. Teigen’s logic is that they were already creating embryos outside of her body, so what was the difference.

“I do think it’s sad people would pick a specific gender / prefer a specific gender (sic),” one Twitter user wrote.

And Teigen shot back with humor saying that she chose other things than gender.

“I also picked the embryo with a taste for bacon, a knack for magic and size 7 feet so she can always find shoes,” Teigen joked.

E! Online says that Teigen is aware that choosing the gender of a baby through IVF is not something that others would do, but she wanted to make that choice, and she stands by the decision, along with husband John Legend. But the responses from her Twitter followers were all over the place.

“What happens if u kid decides ‘she’ wants 2 identify as ‘he’?” one follower asked. “Y is picking gender important unless u hope 2 enforce it?”

Teigen was shocked that people were so opinionated about something that was a decision of a couple with fertility struggles.

“Mentions. In. shambles. Lol. ‘what…what…what if….your GIRL wants to…be……chem trails…..and cis….and….vegan…and….other buzzwords…’ stop looking HERE for s–t to be mad at. There are so many other things that deserve your outrage.”

Teigen stood up for herself, saying that she respects the opinions of others, and is genuinely surprised when people have such narrow opinions, explaining that she is around so many open-minded people each day, she forgets that there are still so many people out there that get indignant over something so trivial.

Teigen jokingly ended the conversation, and apologized for her typos, saying they must be the result of her “darn science baby.”
