Obama Visits Colorado Shooting Victims
President Obama traveled to Aurora, Colorado, today to meet with the victims of the movie theater shooting that occurred earlier this week.
The president has spoken often about the tragedy over the last few days, and today he will witness the after-math of the tragic events first hand.
In his weekly address, the President said:
“We need to embrace them and let them know we will be there for them as a nation… Our time here is limited and it is precious. And what matters in the end are not the small and trivial things which often consume our lives. It’s how we choose to treat one another, and love one another. It’s what we do on a daily basis to give our lives meaning and to give our lives purpose. That’s what matters. That’s why we’re here.”
According to the Associated Press, the president’s visit to Colorado will be short. The president will be in Aurora for about three hours today and will meet with local officials.
After his visit to Colorado the President will travel to San Fransisco where he will begin a three-day in California, Oregon, and Washington.
Twelve people died during the shooting in Colorado, which occurred at a movie theater during the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, and another 50 were wounded. Police have arrested James Holmes, a grad student at the University of Colorado.
