America Has Announced Their Top Five Favorite Dog Breeds
Wondering if your dog made the list for top five dog breeds in the country? Well, the American Kennel Club has announced the top five dog breeds in the country, and for the 25th year in a row, the Labrador Retriever has made the number one spot. If you have a Lab, then you have the best dog breed for the 25th year in a row, according to ABC News. Labs are easy to train and great with families, according to Gina DiNardo, the director of the American Kennel Club.
Going back from No. 5 to No. 2, the breed named in the fifth place spot is the Beagle. Beagle’s are loyal, are called the “best barkers in the bunch,” and are great with kids and families. Beagles, according to DiNardo, are also easy to groom and actually get along great with other dogs.
The Bulldog made it to No. 4, and the Golden Retriever made it to the No. 3 spot. Golden Retrievers are devoted and loyal to their owners. Ready for No. 2? That spot went to the most loyal dog of all, the German Shepherd. However, none of these dog breeds, although all of them are great, could stand up to the number one spot with the Lab.
Fox 5 New York reports that New York also announced their top five dog breeds. They include, in order from the No. 5 spot to the No. 1 spot, the Yorkshire Terrier, the Golden Retriever, the Labrador Retriever — who is number one in the whole country — the French Bulldog, and the Bulldog. According to Fox 5 New York, the French Bulldog and the Bulldog made the top two dog breeds in New York because they are great apartment dwellers and love to hang out together.According to the AKC registry, the Lab has been in the running for number one dog breed for the longest time of any dog breed ever. Twenty-five years is a long time to be the top dog breed, so those who have this breed should be very proud they have the best breed in the country.
Although the Lab has been in the top spot for 25 years now, many other dog breeds, according to AKC.org, have been jumping ahead to get to the number one spot for a while now. In fact, according to the website, the French Bulldog, although No. 2 in New York City, has jumped from ninth place in the country to sixth place from 2014 to 2015.
Also, according to AKC.org, a few other dog breeds have made some moves to try to make it closer to the top of the list with the Lab. For example, the Cane Corso has moved from 47th place to 33rd place on the top dog breeds list. Another breed moving on the list is the Norwegian Elkhound, who moved from 100th place to 88th place, and the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon moved from 74th place to 66th place. Many more dogs moved up the list trying to get as close to the number one spot as they can. However, none of them can stand up to the Labrador Retriever. The Lab has been the best dog breed for 25 consecutive years now. Wonder if it will make it for 26 years for 2016?What do you think? Did your dog’s breed make it to the number one spot?
