Phil Collins To Remarry Ex-Wife Orianne 8 Years After $46 Million Divorce
Phil Collins has reconciled with his ex-wife Orianne, and now the couple is planning to remarry nearly eight years after their record-breaking 2008 divorce. Per People, in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Blick, Orianne Cevey Collins said she and Phil Collins plan to tie the knot a second time.
“I call Phil now again as my husband. We are so close that it actually makes no difference whether we are married. But we are determined to get married one day a second time.”
Phil Collins and his ex-wife made headlines for their high-profile $46.68 million divorce in 2008. It was Collins’ third big payout to an ex-wife, and it was a record breaker. After their big bucks split, Orianne took the couple’s young sons, Matthew and Nicholas, and moved to Florida while Collins battled alcoholism and health problems back in Switzerland. But now, the couple has gone against all odds and reunited.
Collins and his future wife met when he was on tour in 1994 and the Swedish beauty was working as a translator. While their $600,000 1999 wedding boasted a star-studded guest list filled with rock royalty, Collins’ third wife says their second trip down the aisle will be much more low key.
“The important difference is that now our children can be there. I imagine the next celebration will be more familiar and smaller. On our first wedding in 1999 in Lausanne, we had to invite many more people to not disappoint anyone.”
The 42-year-old jewelry designer also said that the divorce was a mistake and should have never happened, despite the fact that she actually married another man (investment banker Charles Mejjati) and had a child with him before getting back together with Phil.
“We were always very close, because of the children. But just last year, I realized that he is indeed the man of my life. Love was never completely gone. [It] was just on another level. We’ve known each other for 22 years, 15 as a couple. Now we feel both the same thing: We should never have diverged. The separation was the wrong decision. We are meant for each other.”
Phil Collins confirmed the sequence of events, telling the Insider that he had remained on good terms with Orianne for the sake of their children, and that they sometimes had dinner with their kids even after their divorce. After Collins relocated to Miami to help care for their sons after Orianne had a complicated surgery, the former couple realized they were still in love.
“We realized after a period of that time that we missed each other and that we’ve made a mistake, that is the simple story.”
Last month, fans were stunned when Phil Collins revealed that he had “secretly” reconciled with his ex-wife, Orianne. In an interview with Billboard, the 65-year-old former Genesis frontman said he moved to Miami to be with his wife and kids last year, and the whole reconciliation just kind of flew under the radar.
“I bought [a house in Miami] about six months ago. I’m actually back with my third wife — I haven’t really talked about it. We’ve been together for a while, and nobody’s noticed.”
While his multi-million dollar divorce from Orianne broke records in Britain (even outdoing Paul McCartney and Heather Mills’ big bucks breakup), Phil Collins is no stranger to unusual divorce stories. According to People, the rocker reportedly ended his 12-year marriage to his second wife, Jill Tavelman, by fax.
