Cops Set Off Bombs Inside James Holmes’ Booby-Trapped Apartment
The Aurora Police Department successfully “controlled detonated” bombs that were inside James Holmes’ apartment Saturday.
US News states that the Aurora Police Department were successful in detonating a bomb inside of Holmes’ apartment after disarming a tripwire incendiary device that were set up to kill law-enforcement authorites. Holmes’ apartment was located in a lower income area about four blocks away from where the the tragedy occured during the premier of “The Dark Knight Rises”. A law enforcement source reported to the Associated Press that there were three different types of explosives inside Holmes’ 800-square-foot apartment. These types of explosives consisted of jars with accelerants, chemicals that would explode when mixed together, and more than 30 homemade grenades that resembled commercial fireworks shells.
The police successfully detonated the explosive water bottle device safely using a robot, however the explosion did blow out parts of the apartment window, reports Newser. Streets surrounding the apartment were cleared, four neighboring buildings were evacuated, and some unattended vehicles were towed away before the controlled detonation of the explosive. Aurora Police Sgt. Cassidee Carlson stated to U.S News that any undetonated explosives will be taken in trucks lined with sand to take the impact of any explosion that may occur during transport. Carlson also stated that police are trying to be overly cautious with any remaining explosives to avoid losing any evidence that may be in the apartment.
These explosives were obviously set up to cause damage or death to law-enforcement authorities, but it was James Holmes who alerted the police to the danger in his apartment upon his arrest.
