Dark Knight Murders: Where Are The Film’s Stars?

Everyone – absolutely everyonehas stepped out to send condolences to the victims of last night’s Aurora, Colorado shootings. From John Stamos to President Barack Obama, public figures have been sharing their respective thoughts, feelings, and comforts since the news broke early this morning. Everyone, except for the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises.

Don’t get me wrong. IQ isn’t speculating something sinister here. Giving the benefit of the doubt, the film’s stars are likely in deep reflection and particularly troubled about the shooting, as it occurred on a night that should have been memorable for other reasons. Now Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus Dark Knight Trilogy forever casts the shadow of the Aurora shooting. The two may forever be inseparable. Talk about conflicted emotions. Talk about wanting to be proud of your work. Talk about legacy.

So where are Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, etc.? The Improper reports that all have pulled out of interviews and public appearances for now, including film premieres. Cotillard specifically cancelled a French television appearance, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. released a statement, saying, “Warner Bros. is deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”

IQ reported that France’s scheduled opening in Paris has been cancelled, and reports seem to indicate that Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, and Morgan Freeman are at Paris’ hotel Le Bristol, and were intending to promote the film there, though in light of the shooting, they have dismissed journalists.

One of the film’s stars has issued a statement, according to Hollywood Life. Gary Oldman, who plays Commissioner Jim Gordon in the film, said “My prayers and deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families of this horrific act,” after hearing of the massacre.

Thus far, Oldman is the only star attached to the film that has spoken. We do expect a statement at some point, but we’re guessing that the film’s stars just don’t have the words right now.

We’ll be here to report it when they do.

Here’s a brief report of the “Dark Knight Shooting” just in case you’re short on details:
