‘The X-Files’ Finale Spoilers, And Rumors Of Another Season
Sadly, The X-Files is already nearing its end with the sixth and final episode set to air on Monday, February 22, leaving fans with a bittersweet taste. Let’s face it. This was no more than a tease; a six-week fantasy only slightly less dissatisfying than that ridiculously brief glimpse of The Lone Gunmen. But there’s hope yet. Even before the season finale of The X-Files has aired, rumors are already circulating that another season is in the offing.
The X-Files Season Finale Has Mulder Beaten And Scully Lost
The finale of The X-Files attempts to bring things full circle, as can be seen in the title, “My Struggle II,” but that’s not to say it wraps things up in a neat little package. To the contrary, even the the teaser leaves one wondering why Mulder (David Duchovny) is such a bloody, worn out mess and why he won’t accept calls from his partner and one-time lover, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).
In this all too brief clip, fans of The X-Files are faced with a divided Mulder and Scully with one badly beaten and the other looking despondent, as she calls to her partner and looks up, as though searching for divine intervention.
While Scully may not have the answers, another X-Files actress has the inside scoop. Annabeth Gish, who played Agent Monica Reyes in later seasons of The X-Files, will be making her return in the season finale. She says she’s very excited for fans to see the return of her character and adds that, while season 10 of The X-Files does go out with a bang, it won’t be quite what fans may be expecting.
“It does, but it’s an emotional one,” Ms. Gish said, when asked if The X-Files goes out with a bang. “My character, in particular, plays a pivotal role in revealing what’s been happening for the last 10 years, and why. It’s a very revealing episode.”
In this teaser, X-Files fans learn that Agent Reyes has been working with a mysterious man, someone badly burned and someone of whom Scully disapproves. It may also be that this man is the only one capable of saving humanity from a deadly virus. Even more compelling, the virus may have some link to alien D.N.A.
No One Can Ever Really Close The X-Files
Even as the end of The X-Files draws near and fans begin to feel the devastation of the series coming to a close, rumors have already begun to circulate that season 11 of The X-Files may not be such a fantastical concept. Even Chris Carter admits that the lives of Mulder and Scully will go on.
“I don’t think it’s it for Mulder and Scully, but I have to say, there’s no guarantee that we’re coming back,” The X-Files creator said. “So, while I see Mulder and Scully and stories down the way, we end up on a very big cliff.”
Adding hope to the possibility of another season for The X-Files, David Madden, Fox entertainment president, said the network is very interested in continuing the series. He added that a second season of The X-Files revival would depend on interest of stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, as well as that of Chris Carter. Fox would not move forward without all three participating.
Meanwhile, David Duchovny commented that the shorter seasons make committing to The X-Files far more acceptable.
“It’s not a great hardship in terms of time. I would hope it will be successful, I would hope we could continue, but right now, I’m just looking at it as these six, and then we’ll see what happens.”
There’s no word on how Gillian Anderson feels, but, if both Duchovny and Carter are on board, it seems likely that Gillian would make it unanimous.
