Jaimie Alexander and Peter Facinelli Call It Quits, Citing ‘Conflicting Commitments’
Jaimie Alexander and Peter Facinelli are calling it quits on their relationship, ending their engagement after just under a year due to the demands of their schedules, People is reporting.
Peter Facinelli, 42, and Jaimie Alexander, 31, have been a thing since at least November 2012, a mere eight months after Facinelli split from his wife of 11 years, Jennie Garth. The two announced their engagement in March 2015, according to a People report from the time.
However, the demands of the couple’s busy schedules meant doom for their relationship. In a statement, the couple announced that they are going their separate ways.
“Due to conflicting family and work commitments on opposite coasts, and after much consideration, Peter and Jaimie have chosen to part ways amicably and remain good friends.”
Alexander and Facinelli met on the set of the 2011 film Loosies, which Facinelli co-wrote, and became fast friends. The two later worked together on Nurse Jackie, and their friendship blossomed into romance, as Alexander explained to People.
“We’ve been friends forever and had a lot of mutual friends and we reconnected in the middle of the year. It was one of those things where I’d been single for a very long time and he was going through a lot. We sort of bonded… It’s very new to me and it’s scary. But it’s also something we don’t want to give up on because I know how it makes me feel in my heart, … It makes me feel really good. He’s a good guy with a great family and I couldn’t be any luckier.”
Facinelli and Alexander’s relationship developed as Peter was reeling from the split with his wife of 11 years, Jennie Garth. The couple, who have three children together [Luca Bella (b. 1997), Lola Ray (b. 2002), and Fiona Eve (b. 2006)], finalized their divorce in 2013.
Though their marriage ended, the two have put forth their best efforts to co-parent their children, as Facinelli told People in November 2012.
“Co-parenting takes two great parents to put their differences aside and focus on the children, and that’s what I’ve been doing.”
Peter and Jaimie announced their engagement in March 2015. Peter popped the question at the top of the Empire State Building, according to People.
However, it seems like the couple’s busy schedules would doom their relationship, even from the beginning. Peter’s proposal, says People, only happened because the couple’s work schedules overlapped in New York City for a few days, and then they were both back to their own projects.
Since working together (and kindling their romance) on Loosies, in 2012, Jaimie has kept busy with a variety of film roles (Savannah, The Last Stand, Collision, Thor, to name a few) and TV work. Currently, Jaimie stars on the NBC drama Blindspot, which is filmed in New York. She plays lead character “Jane,” a woman who has no idea who she is but somehow has tattoos connecting her to an FBI agent, and who somehow is an expert marksman and martial arts expert who also knows how to fly a helicopter.
Facinelli, meanwhile, has kept busy with his own film work (Twilight, Gallows Hill, Freezer, Walter) and is currently starring on the CBS series Supergirl, which films at the Warner Brothers Studios in L.A.
With busy filming schedules on different coasts, not to mention Peter’s obligations to his children, the couple, who made their last public appearance together in Jauary, at the Golden Globes, just couldn’t make it work.
As of this writing, neither Jaimie Alexander nor Peter Facinelli have publicly commented on the couple’s split.
