Victoria’s Secret Gives Josephine Skriver Her Wings

Victoria’s Secret just bestowed their highest honor on model Josephine Skriver, naming her the company’s newest angel. The news first broke on Friday afternoon, when the lingerie brand made the announcement on Instagram, congratulating “Angel Jo” and welcoming her to the family. The appointment certainly comes with its share of perks, not the least of which is a long running, high profile ad campaign, but the attention leads many wanting to know more about Skriver.

Josephine Skriver On Joining The Victoria’s Secret Angels

While she may not be a Hollywood actress or a sports celebrity, Josephine is receiving just as much attention, joining the ranks of some of fashion’s most adored models. Skriver is well aware of her good fortune and she says that being a Victoria’s Secret model has helped her realize her dreams.

“It’s has happened!!” Josephine shared with her Instagram followers. “I’m literally living my dream right now! Can’t believe I get to share with you today that I’m #NewestAngel for @victoriassecret thanks to everyone that has helped to get me here!”

Skriver certainly isn’t new to Victoria’s Secret, having strutted the runway for the brand for their annual fashion show these past three years. Additionally, Josephine has caught the eye of many other fashion designers. Skriver has also modeled fashions for such brands as Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Chanel, and Balenciaga. Now, as Victoria’s Secret’s newest angel, Skriver finds herself in good company with such models as Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Behati Prinsloo, and Lily Aldridge.

“Josephine Skriver is a stunning young woman and a delightful person,” announced Ed Razek in a statement. “She is so special and we are enormously happy to welcome her to the most exclusive club in the history of modeling, The Victoria’s Secret Angels.”

Razek is the chief marketing officer for Victoria’s Secret.

What Do We Know About Josephine Skriver?

Josephine, who is Danish, is best friends with Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Cara Delevingne, which gives her the cred to get into the hottest parties, even on the rare occasion that her own celebrity status doesn’t speak for itself. Proving herself a devoted friend, Skriver attended the launch of Kendall and Kylie’s new clothing line, giving her best friends all the support she could muster.

No, Josephine is not single. When she’s not hanging out with her in crowd or modeling for Victoria’s Secret, Skriver is spending time with her rocker boyfriend, Alexander Deleon, who sings for the heavy punk rock band, The Cab. Deleon was quick to congratulate Josephine on becoming the newest angel, gushing over her on Twitter.

Another interesting fact about Josephine Skriver is that she was raised by gay parents. Her mother is a lesbian and her father is gay. While that type of family dynamic may be a topic of hot debate in the United States, Skriver is proud of her family and she certainly shows no signs of being negatively impacted by her upbringing.

“It has taught me to look at the world and every new thing with open eyes and an open mind,” the Victoria’s Secret model shared. “None of us are the same… We are all born in different cultures with different personalities, and we all have a right to just be who we are! It has without a doubt opened my heart and taught me that love does not judge, love does not discriminate, and love does not hate.”

Now, as an adult, Josephine is doing all she can to bring awareness to the fact that gay parents have much to offer children in a family environment. Currently, she serves as ambassador for the Family Equality Council’s Outspoken Generation Program. Skriver says that a person’s orientation doesn’t interfere with their ability to nurture and raise responsible and happy children. Skriver points out that her own experience with gay parents proves that there’s no difference between being raised by gay parents and being raised by heterosexual couples.
