Jennifer Lawrence is not only an award-winning actress and the highest-paid leading lady in Hollywood, she’s also a bit of a philanthropist, as it turns out.
The Joy star recently paid a visit to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, which is Lawrence’s hometown. After her visit, Jen made the decision to donate $2 million to the facility.
Lawrence made the announcement about the donation and what the large sum of money would go to, by way of a video message that she shared on social media. The beauty shared that the money will go to developing the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Watch Lawrence’s video message below. Entertainment Weekly quotes the star’s words as spoken in her video message.
“As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children.”
Based on details listed within a press release about the care unit, it is set to include 14 beds, each with private rooms for children that are recovering from a variety of intensive heart procedures and will also include space for family members to stay.
Kosair Children’s Hospital is described as “Kentucky’s only full-service, free-standing pediatric care facility dedicated exclusively to caring for children,” within the same press release.
Lawrence made mention of the impact her visit to the children’s hospital had on her and her family.
“My family and I have met so many wonderful children on our visits to the hospital. Their strength and courage is inspiring.”
Thomas D. Kmetz, the Division president of Women’s and Children’s Services at Kosair Children’s Hospital shared his gratitude to Jennifer Lawrence for her generous donation that will bring benefits and comfort to children and families who find themselves in need of the intensive care unit’s services.
“We are thankful for the generosity shown by the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation with this gift. We are equally thankful that she has put her trust in the outstanding work taking place at Kosair Children’s Hospital every day by challenging the community to join her in support of our heart care program.”
Ensuring to do her part to help sick children on their way to recovery is certainly commendable, and Jen is not one to allow her own health to slip. The Oscar-nominated star is always focused on maintaining health and a manageable level of fitness to continue being at her best.
Lawrence’s trainer has recently shared some tips and tricks with The Telegraph that he uses when assisting the star in maintaining and achieving results. Dalton Wong gets real about the best dietary substances to maximize health and fitness goals.
“Foods like asparagus are great for clearing excess water out of your system. I like my clients to try asparagus. Fermented foods, including sauerkraut and kimchi, are also great for naturally building up bacteria so don’t you don’t get indigestion. Lemon is your friend. Squeeze it on food and it starts to break down protein, which means one less step your body has to do – making everything you put it on that much more easy to digest. Use it on grilled fish, or on ceviche.”
As for exercise, Wong indicates that the best 14 minute workout involves lunges, push-ups, lateral squats, and burpees. However, the most important piece of advice that Wong shares with stars like Lawrence is to stay hydrated.
“It’s basic but very important. The best way to check your hydration levels is by checking the colour of your urine, which, provided you’re not taking Berocca, should be clear. After eight hours of sleep our urine tends to be yellow, so I say by lunch time it should be clear. This is my one big celebrity tip that I’m strict on.”
