Neil Patrick Harris To Play Villain In Live-Action ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’

Neil Patrick Harris is one lucky man. He has a wonderful husband, David Burtka, and the two have adorable 5-year-old twins, son Gideon Scott and daughter Harper Grace. But perhaps the best part is when they wake up to breakfast in bed made and delivered by those twins while a blizzard rages outside. E! News reports that Harris took to Instagram to gush about the delivered breakfast.

“Breakfast in bed, made by these two beauties! Snow is falling outside, David smiling beside me. Wow, what a wonderful way to wake up! #grateful.”

To say the breakfast was elaborate might be an understatement. With cinnamon rolls, berries, a granola bar, and fruit and yogurt, it was a feast! But apparently, life isn’t total bliss for Neil Patrick Harris, at least not since someone stole a bench from outside his Harlem home. The New York Daily News reports that the bench was stolen last Wednesday morning, but with the help of Harris’ house manager, the thief was caught quickly.

House manager Damien Acosta tracked down the bench and the thief, who was in the process of trying to sell the bench for a tidy profit. Acosta called 911, and police arrived to arrest Darrian Humphries, who is homeless and has prior arrests on his record. While Acosta did not comment on the incident, Sonia Oritz, who works at the West Harlem Deli, said they need more people like Acosta in the neighborhood.

“We need more people like that in the community. People who won’t just let somebody take something that’s not theirs.”

But adorable family and helpful employees aside, Neil Patrick Harris is getting busy with work. Broadway Buzz reports that he will be hosting a television special called A Roundabout Road to Broadway, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Roundabout Theater Company. The special will include interviews with a number of Broadway stars, including cast members from She Loves Me, such as Alec Baldwin, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Helen Mirren.

Apparently, Neil Patrick Harris is also currently in talks to star in a Netflix original series A Series of Unfortunate Events. Entertainment Weekly reports that the streamed series will be a live adaptation of the book series written by Lemony Snicket. Apparently, Harris is being considered for the role of the villain, Count Olaf, who is the enemy of the three orphans in the books, Klaus, Violet, and Sunny. According to Deadline, Snicket is thrilled his books are finally being made into a series.

“I can’t believe it. After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books.”

According to Sophia Smith, writing for CrossMap, Neil Patrick Harris is perfect for the role of Count Olaf.

“…honestly Neil Patrick Harris is perfect for the role. If ever, this is not the first time that Harris will play the role of the villain as he played ‘Doctor Horrible’ in ‘Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’-a web series by Joss Whedon. If you still haven’t seen it; I suggest you should, it’s all over YouTube. His performance as Doctor Horrible was so amazing that you’ll feel for the character even if he was a villain and I think that’s the warmth that Count Olaf would need.”

There is no doubt Neil Patrick Harris will be able to nail the role of the villain Count Olaf, even if he is a great guy in real life. In the meantime, Harris will continue to enjoy his family and the great job his house manager does for him.
