‘Deadpool:’ Check Out A Lot Of Easter Eggs From The New Film — Post-Credits Scene
Ryan Reynolds is 70 percent sure that he didn’t leak the test footage for Deadpool to actually get the full film made. If it wasn’t him, then fans are willing to thank whomever did it because the movie they’ve waited so long for has finally hit theaters. With a character that breaks the fourth wall and does what any hero wouldn’t do, it’s time to check out the almost countless Easter Eggs and inside jokes that are in Deadpool, along with the post-credits scene.
It should go without saying, but there are going to be SPOILERS galore in the following article. If you don’t want to know a lot about Deadpool, then stop reading now.
Let it be known that there are a lot of references to Wolverine throughout the movie, and that should be expected. Not only do Deadpool and Wolverine interact a lot in the comics, but 20th Century Fox released this film and the X-Men movies as well. There is one point where Deadpool removes his mask to reveal another mask…but it is of Hugh Jackman. This obviously details the man-crush that Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) has on Logan a.k.a. Wolverine. Oh, and Deadpool does make an early reference to…ahem…Wolverine’s man parts.
Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters also makes an appearance. Students in the school are shown watching TV and seeing just what Deadpool is doing around the world.
The opening credits alone serve up a ton of inside jokes as each member of the cast and crew are referenced in different ways. This is an immediate nod to Deadpool’s ability to be the anti-hero and break the fourth wall. Does anyone really not think that Ryan Reynolds is “God’s Perfect Idiot?”
Seeing Stefan Kapi?i?, who plays Colossus, as “An Entirely CGI Character” is hilarious in itself, but there’s more. Stan Lee actually gets his just due by being listed as “A Gratuitous Cameo.”
By the way, Stan Lee does make a cameo and the only mutants to appear are Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, but that’s for a reason. Well, Deadpool has a reason as he states that “the studio couldn’t afford any other X-Men.”
Talk about breaking the fourth wall, at one point, Professor X is mentioned and Deadpool immediately asks “McAvoy or Stewart?” in reference to the two actors who have played the leader of the X-Men.Rob Liefeld, the original creator of Deadpool, is referenced a number of times and even shows up to rip on himself.
One of the greatest Easter Eggs in Deadpool is something that fans have wanted and hoped for. There’s a flashback during the Colossus/Deadpool fight that gives audiences a glimpse of Wade’s apartment. Therein is a model of a certain character, the mouthless creature from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
While on the subject of characters that were messed up by film studios, Wilson does reference another one that he played: Green Lantern. There aren’t any name-drops, but it’s totally obvious what he’s talking about.Just watch the cartoon during the end credits. You won’t regret it and there are even more inside jokes to be had. That’s when the moment happens, though, and there are two post-credits scenes following Deadpool.
First, Deadpool references another big-time breaker of the fourth wall: Ferris Bueller. He asks viewers why they are still there and says there is “no Sam Jackson,” which references The Avengers movie universe way of doing things. Deadpool also talks about the sequel, which has already been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
That was the only post-credits scene in previews, but another has been added since its wide release. In the new and improved post-credits scene, Deadpool states that the sequel is going to introduce Cable, who has not yet been cast, but he has ideas about who could play the “big guy with a flat top” and his choices are Dolph Lundgren, Keira Knightley, or Mel Gibson.
