Andrew Stanton’s last project, John Carter, was one of the biggest box office disappointments of the year. Thankfully, the Pixar director is heading back to the world of animation and will direct Finding Nemo 2.
Stanton directed the original Finding Nemo which won the Academy Award for best Animated feature. Stanton was also in the director’s chair for Wall-E (another Oscar-winning film) and penned Pixar classics like Toy Story 1, 2 , and 3, Monsters Inc., and A Bug’s Life.
Finding Nemo 2 is just one of many Pixar sequels in the works at the moment. The studio also recently announced that a second Monsters Inc. is on the way (you can see a trailer here) as well as a fourth Toy Story.
Stanton said:
“I’m sure you’ll see some other sequels of things as they grow because now we are not so blinded. It’s the originals that keep us really going and it’s the sequels that are like comfort food, and I think it’s the same way for the audience.”
Deadline reports that Stanton has officially signed on to the new Pixar movie but the studio has yet to make an official announcement.
Finding Nemo was Pixar’s second highest grossing movie with $867.9 million worldwide. Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks voiced the two main characters in the 2003 movie. It’s unclear if DeGeneres and Brooks will reprise their roles for Finding Nemo 2.
