Green-Lighted ‘Deadpool 2’ Script In The Works — ‘X-Force’ Movie To Come Before Merc With A Mouth Sequel?
It looks like the Deadpool movie is “tracking” to do pretty nicely at the box office this weekend and is said to probably bring in around $65 million, with some predictions at $70 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Now, it’s been announced that Deadpool 2 has been green-lit by Fox and is currently being penned by screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
So it sounds like there’s such confidence in the first movie doing well this weekend and it would make sense to justify steamrolling straight through with more adventures (or misadventures) including the Merc with a Mouth.
Deadpool director Tim Miller hasn’t signed on to direct the sequel, but it is 20th Century Fox’s intention to still keep the same people around. It seems that there’s some serious fortitude with the crew being brought together with the current movie which allowed for a considerable amount of cohesion for this team especially with a sizable turn-around with writers in the industry.
Apparently, it was a struggle for them to get the ball rolling on the first Deadpool movie and it looks like this weekend will bode for satisfactory results. Actor Ryan Reynolds has already made mention of making X-Force his next priority as well, according to Inquisitr.
Then there was the question raised by Movie Web regarding whether X-Force will becoming out before Deadpool 2. An interview with Reynolds revealed how much he’d like to explore more about the X-Men should other Deadpool movies start to come to fruition. With the aforementioned green-lit film, it would make sense to start pondering more ideas thoroughly.
Olivia Munn was showing off her skills in a viral Instagram photo of her demonstrating some serious swordplay, with Ryan making an awesome counter-attack of an inflatable variety. Movie Web was of the mind that this may tease the next X-Force member, Psylocke.
Deadpool 2 is thought to be coming after the X-Force movie considering that Jeff Wadlow has a completed script and artist Greg Semkow tweeted a picture of the team of mutants, with Psylocke present. Now with occasional teases coming out and the recent aforementioned Olivia Munn and Ryan Reynolds’ sword duel, would this possibly signify an X-Force tease?
It was also recently mentioned that there would not be one but two post-credit sequences after Deadpool, one of which was already seen by those that sat in on the screening of the movie, while the other won’t be revealed until the theatrical release of the flick. However, rumor has it that it’s a “mysterious” scene as mentioned by Rob Liefeld. Movie Web speculated that that could possibly be Olivia Munn’s Psylocke.
Since the Deadpool 2 movie is now being written, it may be noteworthy that six months ago it would “add a beloved character,” according to a report by Cinema Blend. Tim Miller explained this possible addition, being rather dismissive about the Cannonball character and admitting there “aren’t many definitive villains.” Then he mentioned a well-known character in the Marvel Comics, Cable, citing a consensus of disapproval if this notable villain isn’t included.
“If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”
That being said, it would appear that Cable’s appearance alongside the Merc with a Mouth will be a more appropriate form of introduction. After all, he made his first appearance in New Mutants and the two had their own Cable and Deadpool run of 50 issues. So, this is an iconic, well-known pairing of the two, so it would make sense to bring forth the mutant from the future as well.
For starters, go see Deadpool this Friday, Feb. 12, starring Ryan Reynolds, Gotham‘s Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, and a host of others.
