Dwayne Johnson didn’t make his big announcement at Comic-Con but the actor did confirm via Twitter on Sunday that he was currently in talks to play Lobo , a popular character from DC comics. In the past Johnson has been linked to both DC’s Shazam and Lobo.
Only a few months ago Johnson tweeted that he was already working on a project with DC Comics but he would now say what those talks entailed.
If you are unfamiliar with the character Lobo is an alien mercenary and bounty hunter who throughout the series’ evolution has turned from a villain into an anti-hero biker. DC will likely move forward with the most recent incarnation of Lobo as it has proven to be one of DC’s most popular characters since the 1990s.
Fans of Dwayne Johnson have long hoped that he would bring his physique to a major superhero role and with DC comics looking to capitalize on the successes recently realized by Marvel Comics this could be perfect time to launch a new film franchise with the help of an established Hollywood actor.
Johnson already commands some big box office hits including Fast Five and next summer’s likely hit G.I. Joe: Retaliation .
The jump to comics is nothing new for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as he is already working on the Oni Press graphic novel Ciudad and Radical Publishing’s Hercules: The Thracian War.
The big concern may be whether or not Dwayne Johnson end up appearing in too many comic book adaptations over a short period of time.
During his two-hour #RockTalk the Hollywood A-Lister tweeted in response to a fans question:
. @ WritingAWonder Rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true. Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun.. #RockTalk
