‘American Horror Story’ Spoilers: Season 6 To Feature One of Modern-Day Horror’s Most Frightening Figures
American Horror Story Season 6 will likely be about Slender Man according to the new issue of Us Weekly. In case you are not familiar with Slender Man, it’s a character that first emerged as a meme from Something Awful forums. But there is nothing funny about Slender Man. He has become a truly haunting figure, and the choice of building Season 6 of American Horror Story around him is interesting and full of possibilities.
American Horror Story writers have a pretty wide range when it comes to choice of actors to play Slender Man as descriptions of his physical appearance are minimal. His facial features aren’t described. Descriptions of his appearance are very general and typically don’t include much more than the fact that he is terribly thin, with long, tentacle-like arms he uses to capture his prey. He is also often described as wearing a dark suit and a tie. When casting this character, American Horror Story could go with any tall, thin man or woman as his face is usually described as featureless and white (which could easily be accomplished with a mask).
The choice of Slender Man as the theme for Season 6 of American Horror Story poses many possibilities for terrifying story lines. Slender Man commits crimes that involve children. He stalks them, abducts them, and traumatizes them. He’s often found in locations like a forest or other abandoned locations. In Wisconsin in 2014, two 12-year-old girls killed another girl and said that they did it as the first step toward becoming a proxy for Slender Man. All of these things are ripe with possibilities for American Horror Story. In addition, a couple of weeks ago, Bustle and some other web sites suggested that a boarding school may be the location for Season 6 of American Horror Story. This would work perfectly with a Slender Man theme, especially if the boarding school were in some remote location.
Other American Horror Story spoilers have popped up since the last season wrapped up a couple of weeks ago. One is that Angela Bassett will return for the new season in the fall. Screen Crush and others have reported that this bit of news came straight from series creator Ryan Murphy. And Murphy tweeted back in October that he was so thrilled with Lady Gaga’s performance in Season 5, that he had asked her to return for Season 6. There has been no official word yet as to whether or not the Lady, who received a Golden Globe for her performance, has accepted his request. When Pop Sugar spoke recently with Chloe Sevigny at the Sundance Film Festival recently, they asked her about the possibility of her returning to American Horror Story. She didn’t give a straight answer, but indicated that if asked she would consider it. And at the Television Critics Association winter tour, TV Line reported that FX’s John Landgraf let it slip that Season 6 of American Horror Story will be set in two time periods, mostly the present, but with some taking place in the past.
Settings for past seasons of American Horror Story have included a haunted house, an insane asylum, a witches’ coven, a freak show, and a hotel. To date there have been no clues as to where Season 6 may be set. The anthology series has been on the air since 2011. In that time, 65 episodes have been broadcast. IMDB indicates that it has won 78 awards and has been nominated for 227. Among its awards are two Golden Globe, 13 Primetime Emmys, a Screen Actors Guild Award, an AFI Award, and an Art Directors Guild Award.
