Teacher Arrested For Sodomy And Rape Of 14-Year-Old Student [video]

Oklahoma choir teacher Mark Buchanan was arrested on the alleged rape and sodomy of a 14-year-old female student. Buchanan taught band and choir at Sequoyah School in Rogers County. Buchana, 34, was arrested at his home in Claremore earlier this week, local KJRH 2 News reports. Buchanan is the third teacher in Rogers County arrested recently on allegations of sexual abuse of students. Police report excerpts shared via KJRH note that he “came clean” to his wife about his relationship with a student because he believed the girl might be pregnant. Buchanan’s wife reported him to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, Tulsa World notes.

Local law enforcement officers noted in court documents that they believe Buchanan had engaged in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student from January to June this school year. Sheriff Scott Walton told KJRH that some “if not all” of the sex acts between the teacher and student occurred on school property. The police report also notes that a choir room closet was used on several occasions by the teacher to have sex with the high school student.

Investigators also note naked photos of the school teacher were found on his alleged victim’s cell phone. The Oklahoma teacher was charged with 18 counts of rape, sodomy and lewd molestation. Buchanan has a July 18 court date ad is currently being held in Rogers County jail. KJRH also reports that in May teachers Jason Ward and Jeffrey Harris (both of neighboring community Foyil) were arrested on similar charges – law enforcement officers do not believe any of the alleged sex with students incidents are linked.
