Have you been able to solve the dead wife riddle?
One particular Facebook post about a dead wife has made waves online recently after being shared and circulated throughout the popular social media website. Even though it reads like an official news story, the now-viral post about a dead wife is just a riddle – a brain teaser that has stumped some and amused others as it spreads like wildfire online.
Here is the dead wife riddle.
“One night, a man receives a call from the police. The police tell the man that his wife was murdered, and that he should reach the crime scene as soon as possible. The man drops the phone, shocked, and drives 20 minutes to the crime scene. As soon as he reaches the crime scene, the police arrest him and he is convicted of murder. How the police know that he committed the crime?”
The question, “How did the police know he did it?” was also printed at the top of the Facebook post above the dead wife riddle. Viewers were encouraged to type “Got It” in the comment section beneath the post if they were able to solve the riddle without actually giving away the answer.
Therefore, prospective cheaters that wanted to copy off of someone else’s comment may have been disappointed by reviewing the vast number of messages that simply read “Got It.”
WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO THE DEAD WIFE RIDDLE?
What is the solution? How did the police know that the husband was the murderer? How were they able to arrest him moments after he arrived at the crime scene and how did the prosecution get a conviction for murder?
The crime scene plays a key role in the answer to that question! How so? You have to pay close attention to what information the police gave the husband when he was first called about the murder.
“The police tell the man that his wife was murdered and that he should reach the crime scene as soon as possible.”
After that particular statement is made, the dead wife riddle seems to focus on the husband’s reaction to the news.
Notice that he “dropped the phone, shocked” and later drove “20 minutes to the crime scene.”
As soon as he reached his destination, he was arrested and later convicted for the murder of his spouse – according to the dead wife riddle.
How, though, did he know where to go? The police told him to reach the crime scene as possible, but they never explained to the husband where the crime scene was located. Perhaps the husband’s initial shock confused him and caused him to panic – failing to realize that the police did not tell him where he needed to go to see his dead wife.
How did he know where the crime scene was located without receiving even a subtle hint or general idea from the police? The answer is simple. The husband was the person that killed the woman in the first place. Therefore, no one would need to tell him where the crime scene was located since he was the person that created the scene!
The solution to the dead wife riddle may seem a little difficult to find at first. That is, of course, until you realize that the answer was right under your nose the whole time!
However, there are quite a few other riddles and brain teasers that have been shared via social media over the years that are a lot harder to solve than this one.
