‘Outlander’ Stars Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe Spotted Flirting On Set, Did Their Chemistry Lead To Real-Life Romance?

Few have doubted Sam Heughan’s onscreen chemistry with Caitriona Balfe. In fact, their portrayal of Claire and Jamie’s love story is one of the main reasons behind Outlander’s huge success. Now, with the series heading into its second season, is there a possibility that Heughan and Balfe are seeing each other outside of work?

It is no secret that the two have shared a playful relationship on social media that occasionally borders on flirtatious. Even still, Heughan and Balfe have kept their relationship strictly professional and very much in the friend zone. However, an inside source recently told Celeb Dirty Laundry that their relationship has now changed.

The inside source claims to have worked as an extra on the set of Outlander’s second season, where Heughan and Balfe were spotted getting a little close with each other when the cameras were not rolling.

“Sam and Caitriona were taking a short break between scenes when I saw them off to the side, holding hands and Sam was even whispering in her ear,” the insider reported. “She was laughing at whatever he said and well, they looked like an ordinary couple.”

That being said, Heughan and Balfe have not released anything official on the status of their relationship. If the two really are dating, then it is only a matter of time before more information is released on the matter.

With little evidence to go on, there is no way of knowing if the two Outlander stars have taken their on-screen relationship to real life. Considering Balfe’s past comments on the matter, it does not seem likely that the two are now dating.

In fact, according to Parent Herald, Balfe has stated in the past that she is not looking to start a relationship with Heughan. Although she admitted that Heughan is one of her close friends and that they get along with each other great on set, she also stated that it would be hard for her to balance a relationship while working with Heughan in the series.

Balfe also touched on the fact that many fans are desperate to see her and Heughan get together in real life. While this is one of the motivations behind all of the rumors circulating about the two, it does not seem like they are ready to make that move just yet.

Meanwhile, with the series currently in production for its highly anticipated second season, Starz has officially released new photos of Claire on Facebook. In the first image, Claire is shown kneeling beside an unknown person and appears to be trying to help him out.

“Claire will waste no time putting her nursing skills to use in Paris,” the image is captioned.

According to Ace Showbiz, the latest promo image follows another photo that was released of Claire in a yellow coat.

“She’s the mastermind behind a history-altering scheme,” the caption reads.

Although the photos don’t reveal too many details concerning the new season, they are an indication of how important Claire’s storyline is going to be this year. Along with using her nursing skills, Claire and Jamie’s main goal in the upcoming season is to stop the Jacobite Rebellion. All the while, Claire will also be juggling the birth of her child and Jamie’s struggles with everything that happened to him last season, which included the sexual assault at the hands of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies).

Unfortunately, fans have a little while longer to wait until the release of Outlander’s second season, which is scheduled to air in early spring of 2016. In the meantime, everyone will be keeping a watchful eye on what is happening behind the scenes between Heughan and Balfe.
