Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro Reveals Mother Has ALS

Over the years the Cake Boss otherwise known as Buddy Valastro has graced upscale events with some of the most beautiful cakes. Unfortunately it looks like Valastro has fallen on hard times, as he announced that the matriarch of Cake Boss, Buddy’s mother, Mary has been diagnosed with ALS.

The Cake Boss, who runs the successful Carlo’s bakery in New Jersey has revealed that his 64-year-old mother is suffering from the incurable Lou Gehrig’s disease, coined after the baseball player who died from the disease in 1943.

In a statement to People magazine, Buddy said, “I can confirm that my mother Mary – the heartbeat of the Valastro family and Mama to all of Carlo’s Bakery – has been diagnosed with ALS,” Valastro continued optimistically saying, “She is tackling it with the strength and determination she always shows, and the entire family is in this together, fighting for her. We’d like to thank all of our fans for the love and prayers – it means a great deal to all of us.”

The network TLC, which is the network that airs Buddy’s show has shown its support for the Valastro family by giving a statement to TODAY.com, stating, “TLC shares its support with the family.”

ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease is said to damage neuromuscular system, which is when the muscles have lost their nourishment. The degenerative disease is said to effect the spinal cord, which is where the nerves of the muscles are located. As of last year there was a breakthrough with the disease when researchers at Northwestern University identified a common cause and root of the disease.

Well wishes for Mary Valastro and her family.
