Jennifer Lopez Confirmed For Super Bowl LI?
Jennifer Lopez may be heading to the Super Bowl.
According to a new report by HollywoodLife.com, Lopez is currently being considered for Super Bowl LI, scheduled for February 5, 2017, should her current Las Vegas residency go well.
A source allegedly told the site that Jennifer is using her current “Jennifer Lopez: All I Have” string of shows at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas as a platform to showcase her stage skills ahead of next year’s huge football event.
“Jennifer is excited for her Vegas residency to start as she sees it as a major milestone in her career, but she also is using it as a place to show the NFL that she should be the Super Bowl halftime performer next year,” a source exclusively told HollywoodLife.com about Lopez’s big performance plans.
“Vegas will be her highlight reel,” the source continued, “[Jennifer Lopez] really wants to do the Super Bowl and she wants to be the first person the NFL asks for Super Bowl 51 and her Vegas show will prove that 100 percent.”
Though neither Jennifer Lopez nor the NFL have publicly confirmed nor denied the Super Bowl rumors, a separate source confirmed to the site that the football league are in fact interested in talking to Jennifer, who’s currently starring in the NBC cop drama Shades of Blue, about taking to the stage.
“The NFL would definitely be interested and would be happy to take on those discussions but not anytime soon,” a source allegedly exclusively told the site. “They have plenty of time to figure that all out and when plans start materializing for next year then they will cross that path.”
While Lopez is a pretty busy lady right now, Jennifer will likely have a gap in her schedule when the 51st Super Bowl rolls around in February, 2017. Lopez’s current gig as a judge on American Idol is set to come to an end this May after the long-running talent show announced last year that the current season will be its last.
According to her official Las Vegas residency website, Jennifer also currently only has Las Vegas shows scheduled up until June 12, though she is expected to add further dates to her Sin City roster in the coming months.
But while the rumors swirl, this actually isn’t the first time Jennifer Lopez’s name has been bandied about with the biggest event on the American football calendar.
Bustle reported back in December that a now-deleted tweet showed a video of the 2016 Super Bowl trophy that mysteriously featured background music by Lopez, appearing to hint that Jennifer may have once been scheduled to make an appearance at this year’s Super Bowl 50.
However, since the initial tweet was posted and deleted, Jennifer has likely been ruled out of a Super Bowl 50 performance following the announcement that Beyoncé, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars will all be teaming up to entertain the billions of viewers tuning in from around the world.
While Lopez’s association with the biggest football game on the planet is nothing but speculation right now, that hasn’t stopped fans from taking to Twitter to express their excitement of the possibility of a Jennifer Lopez halftime show hitting our screens at some point in the not too distant future.
“JLo would put on one hell of a Super Bowl show! Imagine it!,” Twitter user @ItsVonTae tweeted out on January 18, while @Heather_Glam wrote on the 140 character site last month, “@JLo should perform at the Super Bowl!! Duh!! Why hasn’t this happened?”
