Gigi Hadid Reveals Lyme Disease Impact On Yolanda Foster & Siblings: Wins MasterChef Prize To Help Find Cure
Gigi Hadid has become known as a supermodel success story at only 20 years old. But recently the daughter of Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster took a break from modeling to compete in MasterChef Celebrity Showdown, reported ET.
Gigi competed for a charity with special meaning to her: The Global Lyme Alliance for Lyme Disease. And when the model revealed how she feels about Lyme disease, which her mom, Yolanda, learned that she had in 2012, she had to battle her tears.
“My mom, sister and brother are all affected by Lyme disease,” she told Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi, who were the judges. “Not enough people know what Lyme disease is and the dangers of being bitten by an insect. For that on it’s own is amazing, but with [the cash prize of] $25,000, we can help with finding a cure. It can help so much.”
Although Yolanda was candid about her Lyme disease, she only recently shared that two of her children are battling the disease, as well. The occasion for sharing that Bella and Anwar also have Lyme disease was at the Global Lyme Alliance Gala in New York City, when Foster received an award. While her mother and siblings have Lyme disease, Gigi has struggled to comprehend what it means. The daughter of Yolanda emphasized that she wants very much to provide those with the condition with her strength and support.
“I’m the only one in, of my siblings, my mom and my family that hasn’t been affected by Lyme disease. It’s been really hard for me because I’m the only one that doesn’t really understand it. What’s been hardest for me is just trying to find a way to be their hope and kind of be a strength for them even with the disease that I can’t understand fully because I haven’t been through it.”
What may help, however, is that Hadid did win the MasterChef contest and the money to help find a cure, reported the Daily Mail. And the secret’s in the burger when it comes to winning the MasterChef Celebrity Showdown.
The supermodel confessed that during her first year in New York City, she consumed different burgers weekly in a quest to find her dream burger in the city. She also revealed her unexpected diet for her model-perfect figure.
“I always say, eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane,” she laughed.Victoria’s Secret model Devon Windsor, 21, was the competition but she couldn’t concoct something scrumptious enough to top Gigi’s burger patty that included pickled jalapeños, potato crisps, and a spicy crispy onion nest. The judges Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi were delighted.
Both judges emphasized how impressed they were with the burger plate.
“Your burger is f**king delicious,” praised Gordon.
Tosi described the burger as juicy, with the chips achieving perfection.
But it was the cash prize that she could donate to help find a cure for Lyme disease that mattered most to Yolanda’s daughter, reported UPI.
“All the lymies out there @LymeAlliance this one’s for you! Thank you@MasterChefonFox,” she tweeted. The model is the oldest offspring of Mohamed Hadid and Foster. The Real Housewives star and real estate developer were together from 1994 to 2000. Yolanda recently filed for divorce from David Foster, her second husband.
Foster has had some backlash about her Lyme disease from several of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and David made it clear that although they have separated, he still supports Yolanda and her struggle with Lyme disease.
“I have always had and continue to have the utmost respect and love for Yolanda, which is why it is so frustrating to see headlines questioning her chronic debilitating illness,” declared Foster.
