‘Shameless’ Spoilers: What Will Fiona Do About Her News, Plus Showtime Renews Series For Season 7
The Gallaghers are going to have at least another season to be even more shameless than they are – as happens every year – on Shameless. In addition to the news that the series has been picked up for another 12 episodes, there are teases out about what to expect with the latest pregnancy.
First of all, Entertainment Weekly has reported that Shameless Season 7 is a go, with Showtime’s president of programming, Gary Levine, noting its “steady growth,” “creative work,” and “clear and distinctive voice.” Who doesn’t love being able to turn on their televisions Sunday nights and watch just how crazy and messed up this family can get? Now, you have at least another season of just that.
But first, the family has to get through Shameless Season 6 – and a couple of pregnancies. Debbie is pregnant, and while Fiona’s not happy about the news — she’s pushing for her to get an abortion — Debbie has the exact opposite reaction. First, she tells her sister she’s not pregnant, which blows up in her face when the baby’s father’s family shows up at the Gallaghers’ and wants to talk to Fiona about the baby. Oh, and Derek was the one who wanted to leave, not his family. A baby was not in his plans for his future, but that’s not nearly enough to stop Debbie from planning to go to him while Fiona is dead set on her going to the clinic for an abortion.
As executive producer Nancy Pimental told TVLine, Fiona and Debbie will be “at odds pretty much the whole season.” Debbie’s storyline is being used to show another side of teen pregnancy, as she wants a family of her own that isn’t like the one she was raised in. However, will that continue to hold true with Derek out of the picture and her seeing how difficult is it to have a baby and be in school (and the fact that she left the bag of flour she was carrying as a baby placeholder on a train)?
The pregnancy just revealed in Shameless Season 6 is Fiona’s, as she found out when she was drug tested at work for her new gig as assistant manager — and after discovering that Sean had relapsed. This is showing the other side of a pregnancy, different from Debbie’s reaction, as the EP told TVLine that not only is this a way to show it was pretty much bound to happen that Fiona would get pregnant with the amount of sex she’s having if she’s not using protection, but whereas Debbie is certain she wants the baby, “Fiona is so positive that she doesn’t.”
As for whether or not she’ll have an abortion, Pimental shared that viewers will “definitely find out a few episodes later,” but what is certain is that she is going to “ultimately tell Sean.”
But as the promo for the next Shameless Season 6 episode shows, Fiona is telling Sean she’s dealing with “family stuff” and maybe going somewhere she shouldn’t – depending on the reason for it. Plus, Frank gives Debbie terrible prenatal advice when it comes to her financial situation.
One sneak peek shows Frank giving her more advice about her baby and welfare. Debbie tells him she’s taking all her vitamins. She knows that Frank’s not the one to go to for parental advice.
The other Shameless Season 6 Episode 3 clip shows Fiona going to see Gus since she’s still on the mailing list for his concerts. He tells her he wrote a song for her, but is it going to be one she wants to hear? Is she still going to want to talk to him after hearing it?
Shameless Season 6 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
