When Donald Trump announced his bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, many people, especially career politicians, thought his announcement was a publicity stunt or, at best, a genuine attempt to run for president that was well-meaning but unrealistic.

But Donald Trump’s political career started off strong last year, and it seems it’s only gained in momentum as time goes on. He is still sitting pretty at the top of the polls, and support for his nomination continues to grow. Recently, Donald Trump gained an impressive endorsement from John Wayne’s daughter.

According to Time, Aissa Wayne , daughter of the “The Duke” himself, has chosen to throw her support behind Donald Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Donald Trump’s response was, surprisingly enough, humbled.

“This is very important to me because of John and his whole legacy. I met him one time and it made such an impression.

“When you think about it John Wayne represented strength, he represented power, he represented what the people are looking [for] today because we have exactly the opposite of John Wayne right now in this country.

“And he represented real strength and an inner strength that you don’t see very often, and that’s why this endorsement it meant so much to me.”

Aissa Wayne feels confident that her father, the legendary John Wayne, would offer his own endorsement to Donald Trump if he were still alive. In her opinion, the United States needs a strong and honest leader with values such as those John Wayne represented, reports the New York Post.

“The reason I am here to support Mr. Trump is because America needs help, and we need a strong leader, and we need someone like Mr. Trump with leadership qualities, someone with courage, someone who is strong like John Wayne.”

Donald Trump has received another high-profile endorsement this week as well. Former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, has lent her considerable support to Trump as well, reports the Centre Daily Times.

There was some speculation that Sarah Palin may choose to support Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump, but those rumors proved to be false. Palin says that Donald Trump is “giving voice to untold millions of fed-up Americans witnessing a purposeful destruction of our economy and the equal opportunity for success that made America exceptional.”

The first primary takes place in Iowa in just two weeks. The race to be the one to come out on top has continued to intensify. So far, it seems Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz will be the two to watch in Iowa next month.

These endorsements are a big deal for Donald Trump. This close to the first primary, adding supporters of this caliber will do nothing but help Donald Trump’s political career.

Aissa Wayne and Sarah Palin in one day is a great coup for The Donald. Who knows what will happen tomorrow?
