Kate Winslet is arguably Leonardo DiCaprio’s biggest fan. She’s been very vocal about her colleague, who she has starred alongside in two films. Recently, the actress, who’s up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve Jobs , was asked about whether or not she thinks Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win the Academy Award .
As you may know, this is DiCaprio’s fifth nomination, which he received for his film The Revenant . Critics have hailed the actor’s masterful performance, calling it his grittiest yet. Winslet, much like her Titanic co-star, was nominated several times before she snagged her Oscar for the film The Reader . So, Winslet definitely understands the climate and general buzz around her friend DiCaprio.

In fact, she has so much confidence about Leo’s Oscar that she said she would be “surprised” if DiCaprio didn’t win the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. Like everyone else, Winslet says that it’s DiCaprio’s time to win the award.
“I think you can sort of feel it, and I think that everyone wants it for him. It would be amazing.”
That said, it’s a bit conflicting for Winslet, given that her Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender is up against DiCaprio. The actress finds herself in a difficult position, seeing as she also has to support her colleague, who was opposite her the whole time for the film Steve Jobs .
“It’s slightly difficult for me too, because Michael Fassbender has been nominated, and I was his right-hand woman for three months while we were making Steve Jobs and I saw how hard he worked. I think his performance is so extraordinary, but I think yeah, you can sort of feel the temperature. It’s probably going to be Leo’s year.”

It’s not just the buzz that’s behind Leonardo DiCaprio this year, but it’s the statistics. While there was buzz in the air for him last year with The Wolf of Wall Street , he had some pretty powerful competition from Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything . Flash forward to this year, and it really does seem like it’s DiCaprio’s year, as none of the awards have been split between two actors like it was last year.
Although he’s modest, DiCaprio reflected on the buzz that’s currently happening during an interview with Andrew Marr.
“The truth of the matter is that I’ve been in situations before where I’ve thought films or performances, either mine or others, should be either nominated more adored by the public, or critics should revere it more. But it’s beyond your control.”
DiCaprio continued, “You just do your best work. Knowing that I did a movie that took this much of my life, that we devoted this much to as far as focus is concerned, we gave it everything we possibly could. To sit here looking at receiving that many nominations for this film, it not only feels good but it also feels like people have a yearning to see a different type of film.”
As for the close bond that Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio share, you might ask yourself, why didn’t the two connect behind the scenes? Winslet answered why they never hooked up as young stars on the set of Titanic . The Inquisitr reported that Winslet told Marie Claire there was nothing romantic that happened, and it’s strictly platonic despite their amazing chemistry on screen.
“I think the reason that [my friendship with Leo] works is because there was never any romantic thing. It’s so disappointing for people to hear that, because in the soap opera of the Kate and Leo Story we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but actually we never did.”
The actress went on to say that Leo saw her as just one of the guys and that their connection came because they needed to lean on each other in the hysteria that followed with Titanic , as they were both very young when they shot to stardom out of nowhere.
