Production for Fifty Shades Darker has been delayed once again, only this time, Jamie Dornan may be the cause of the postponement. Although the movie has faced several challenges in production over the past few months, it now appears as though Dornan’s personal life has pushed back production once again. How will this affect the project moving forward?
According to Master Herald , production for the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey was scheduled to begin in Vancouver in early February. Now, producers have bumped back the schedule by a week, which means the movie won’t get off the ground until February 15 at the earliest.
The change in schedule is reportedly due to Dornan’s personal life, as the Fifty Shades star is expecting another child with his wife, Amelia Warner. Dornan and Warner currently have one child together. While it is not known when Dornan and Warner are set to have their baby, Dornan’s personal life is just one of many obstacles the new movie faces.
In addition to Dornan’s personal life, the movie still has a number of important roles to cast. These gaps in casting include the characters of Jack Hyde, Mrs. Robinson, and Leila Williams, all of whom are important to the plot of the second film.
While fans wait to hear any news on who producers have cast for the roles, Ian Somerhalder, Charlize Theron, Alexis Bledel, Cara Delevingne, and Theo James are all thought to be up for parts. However, none of these actors have yet to comment officially on the casting and whether or not they are interested in playing the characters.
That being said, both Dornan and co-star Dakota Johnson are set to reprise their roles as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel. The movie is an adaptation of the second book in the best-selling series by E.L. James.
At the same time, the latest delay is not the first to have plagued the start of production of the erotic drama. Although the first film was a monetary success in the box office, director Sam Taylor-Johnson decided to cut ties with the franchise and not return to direct the sequel.
This left Fifty Shades Darker without a director despite having a scheduled premiere date already set. Luckily, producers were able to work fast and hire James Foley to helm the remaining movies in the franchise in the latter part of 2015. Even still, the delays meant that production could not start until February of 2016, leaving filmmakers with a tight shooting schedule to follow.
Now, with the project facing further delays, the movie might have to film through April. With the movie set to be released in early 2017, that would only give producers around 10 months to finish the project and release the film on time. Although this is not an impossible task, producers certainly have their work cut out for them in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Kpopstarz is reporting that Dornan is committed to putting family first, even if that means delaying a film as big as Fifty Shades Darker . Whether or not this means that Dornan’s personal life could delay the movie even further is yet to be seen. With Fifty Shades Darker only having a narrow window to finish production and final editing, producers do not have a lot of wiggle room if they want to keep on schedule.
Fifty Shades Darker is scheduled to open in theaters in February of 2017, while the third film in the franchise, Fifty Shades Freed , is set to premiere in February of 2018.
