5SOS’ Calum Hood Talks Leaked Snapchat Video, Being Judged, Disrespected On Twitter

2016 is turning out to be a great year for 5SOS. In their recent Rolling Stone cover, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford talked about their plans for the Sounds Live Feels Live Tour happening this year.

Following the success of their Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour, which ended last September in Florida, 5SOS will be returning to the stage for the Sounds Live Feels Live Tour beginning this February in Japan at the Nagoya Congress Center.

Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford will reportedly go on a world tour for a year, visiting Europe, North America and Asia, before returning to Australia to perform at the Hordern Pavilion.

5SOS shared that they planned to do something big for the fans this time around. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ashton Irwin admitted that he got bored of the tour they put up last year.

“After 70 times, I was like, ‘Ah…’ I loved it, I loved the fans there and the energy of the show, but it wasn’t really challenging.”

Irwin added that they did not want to do the same routine—play a few songs, say goodbye to the audience only to return a few minutes later for an encore. He added that they will be taking inspiration from Queen and use piano for a more soulful performance.

While 5SOS had a lot of things to be grateful for in the past year, Calum Hood admitted that his naked Snapchat leak in 2014 still bothers him to this day. Although the breach of privacy may be the issue for some, the singer admitted that it was the fans’ reaction that got to him.

“Some of the comments online would be like, ‘I thought it would have been bigger.’ It kind of messed me up for a little bit.”

Calum Hood, however, added that he eventually got over it. He explained that being naked was not “a big deal,” adding that he can drop his pants whenever he liked.

Calum Hood also talked about how he was unable to speak his mind freely on social media.

After their tour with One Direction, 5SOS became arguably one of the most popular bands in their generation. Calum Hood explained that he needed to think twice before posting anything on Twitter or Instagram since people are becoming “so sensitive” nowadays. He added that he sometimes could not even voice out his own opinions for fear of being judged.

“I’m just kind of terrible at it. You can’t really joke around about anything. Not even joke around, you can’t say an opinion without being totally judged and disrespected for it. It’s horrible.”

In November, Calum Hood shocked 5SOS fans when he tweeted that he will one day leave and live a normal life. According to the Daily Mail, Hood’s tweet was very similar to what Zayn Malik said when he left One Direction. Zayn shared that he wanted to experience what it was like being a “normal 22-year-old.”

Supporters of 5SOS and Calum Hood immediately responded with encouraging tweets. They held that they would support Hood no matter what. Many, however, hoped that he will think twice before leaving 5 Seconds of Summer.

When TMZ caught up with Calum Hood, a photographer asked if he ever considered leaving the group, to which he replied “oh f**k no.”

Bustle has come up with an article titled “6 Signs 5SOS’ Calum Hood Was Never Planning To Pull A Zayn Malik & Quit The Band.” In the post, writer Michelle Mcgahan speculated that Hood was merely having an “emo moment” when he posted that tweet. She added that the singer may just be venting out his frustrations on Twitter just like the rest of us.

It was also pointed out that Calum Hood’s tweet was so vague that it could be interpreted in several ways.

“It’s impossible to interpret what he actually meant, unless he came forward and explained what it was in reference to,” Mcgahan added.
