Nazi Backlash? Tila Tequila Reportedly Crowdfunds, Begs Fans For Money To Pay Rent, Buy Furniture

Tila Tequila has done a few dubious things, but this latest stunt is causing a stir on social media and is leaving many scratching their heads. Reportedly, the Celebrity Big Brother reality TV star began a crowdfund campaign to raise money to pay her rent and buy new furniture. Is Tila suffering a backlash from her shocking past Nazi sympathizer comments?

Who knew Tila Tequila, birth name, Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen, would ever hatch a crowdfund idea to support her and her daughter? Things that make you go, hmm, right?

With the advent of sites like GFM, Kickstarter, Indiegogo and others, several projects supporting creative thinkers, community causes and people in dire straits, have been funded. The new wave of obtaining seed money or emergency funds is growing in popularity and showing no signs of slowing down in the near future.

On the contrary, we’ve seen some outlandish crowdfunding campaigns in the past: the construction of a functional Death Star; the invention of a — wait for it — pi-shaped pie pan (just think math — 3.14159); money for a Tardis in space and perhaps, the most odd of them all, donations for a “farts in a jar” idea. True story.

Tila Tequila, arguably, may have topped them all with her crowdfund request. The “shamed” television personality, one-time sextape star and mother of one created a GoFundMe page to help with the cost of a new place because the housing cost at her apartment soared beyond her budget, according to Metro.

“The reason why I am creating this GoFundMe campaign is because they have raised the rent at my old home to $4,500 a month, and being a single mother without any support from the father, it can sometimes be very tough taking care of 2 people with only a 1 person income.

“So right now I need to raise some money so that I can move into my new home and get it furnished for my daughter and I. The last apt I was at came fully furnished and that’s why it was so expensive, but I’d rather save money for my daughter than keep wasting money each month like that.”

Not surprisingly, responses from the public weren’t pretty over Tila’s crowdfund effort. While some took the bait, others questioned her motives.

“It’s amazing how many idoits [sic] will just give money away for no reason at all? What happened to Tila’s porn career? Has it failed to pay the bills? What about channeling some of the money laid out for tatoos [sic], implants and fancy clothes to pay the bills and raise her daughter? For the type of rent she has been paying I have a feeling Tila makes more than she is leading her fans to believe. However, for a gold digger like her whatever she makes is not enough. For those who donated, quit being stupid!!!”

Last year, Tila came under fire for a controversial blog post she penned in 2013. In Why I Sympathize With Hitler Part 1: True History Unveiled, Tequila referred to the late German dictator as a “good man” and a person “of compassion.” A Change.org petition was created and producers of the U.K. TV show removed her from the cast, according to E! News. Some suggest the comments have come back to bite her in a big way.

Oddly, whether you love or hate her, Tila not only met her crowdfunding goal, she surpassed it, thanks to her loyal supporters. And for your generous donations, Tila Tequila promises to give you a telephone call and personally thank you.

Is this the new normal? Will celebrities who’ve fallen from grace and on hard times turn to crowdfunding to help meet their living expenses? Could she have simply downsized and saved face? Perhaps, the bigger picture is Tila’s demonstration of doing what it takes to put a roof — a pricey one — over her child’s head?
