Leonardo DiCaprio Claims He And Lady Gaga Are Totally Cool After Golden Globes Diss Went Viral
The internet is in a frenzy after what some would speculate as an odd or even a suspicious run-in between Leonardo DiCaprio and Lady Gaga at the recent Golden Globe Awards. Memes and GIF’s of the run-in, including DiCaprio’s awkward expression, popped up around the web afterwards as the internet continuously guesses the future of the pair’s suspected quarrel.
But the actor, who recently went home with a Golden Globe award for his performance in The Revenant, is clearing the air and gave his take on what actually happened between him and Lady Gaga at the 2016 Golden Globes.
DiCaprio spoke to Phillip Schofield on ITV’s This Morning about what happened. “It’s amazing what goes viral these days, I guess I’m of a different generation now. I have no idea where this stuff comes from or how it’s even captured!” the actor stated.
When asked what his reaction would be if Lady Gaga brushes past him again at the upcoming Academy Awards, DiCaprio had this to say.
“We were laughing about that afterwards. I actually had no idea who was passing me or what was going on, but that was a funny little bit that went around … we were laughing at it at the after party!”
With the Oscars right around the corner, if DiCaprio wins the upcoming awards show, it will be the first time he has taken home the Oscar for best actor.
The talented actor plays the role of a frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 19th century and fights for survival after being mauled by a bear. The film is inspired by the real-life events of fur trapper Hugh Glass, who is brought to life by DiCaprio.
In the same interview with This Morning, Leonardo DiCaprio was also asked about winning an Oscar. “I do know that it’s completely beyond my control at this point,” he said. “It’s interesting, because that’s not why you do the work, you know? You do the work because you love making movies and you want to look back and have a filmography that you’re proud of.”
He continued on the show with more an inside glimpse into what it would be like winning an Oscar.
“When you’re on set you have to give everything that you possibly can while you’re there but of course being recognized by your peers and all that other stuff that happens is kind of the cherry on the cake so to speak.”
However, the star of The Revenant isn’t the only nominee for best actor. The stiff list of fellow competitors also in running for the award for best actor include Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl).
Despite the talented list of actors DiCaprio is up against, Editor Director of People and Entertainment Weekly‘s Jess Cagle believe that it’s Leonardo DiCaprio’s time to take home the trophy.
Cagle also reminded everyone that The Revenant has also received twelve other nominations, including best director by Alejandro Iñárritu and best supporting actor by Tom Hardy, boasting the movies support of the Academy Awards.
But DiCaprio has been on the losing side of the Oscars before and knows what it feels like to go home empty handed. Cagle gave his opinion of that subject to People, “At some point in an actor’s career there just seems to be a mass sentiment among academy voters that this is his time,” says Cagle. “People in Hollywood feel like Leonardo DiCaprio’s time has come.”
Until the Academy Awards play out and the awards given to their rightful winners, DiCaprio, along with Lady Gaga and the rest of the universe, will just have to wait and see who wins.
