New ‘Outlander’ Season 2 Photos Feature Shirtless Sam Heughan And Pregnant Caitriona Balfe

New photos from the set of Outlander’s second season have officially been released. Along with showing the first looks at a pregnant Claire (Caitriona Balfe), fans were also treated with a shirtless image of Jamie (Sam Heughan). With that in mind, what do the new photos reveal about the upcoming season?

In the first image, which can be viewed on Gold Derby, Claire and Jamie are featured standing together in what appears to be a fancy living room. Jamie has one hand on Claire’s baby bump while the two are staring off into the distance.

While Claire’s pregnancy was first revealed at the end of Season 1, the image marks the first time fans have seen Claire as an expecting mom. Given how excited the couple looks, it appears that things are working out for them as they gear up for the birth of their first child.

The second image, meanwhile, features Claire lying next to a shirtless Jamie. The two are positioned on an elegant couch and look more in love than ever before. This is definitely good to see as the two will find themselves facing some tough challenges in the new season.

The second season of Outlander will include a change in setting for everyone’s favorite time-traveling couple. This includes Jamie and Claire venturing into Paris, France, with a brand new mission in mind.

Specifically, the pair will be trying their best to prevent the Jacobite Rebellion from gaining ground. In order to accomplish their task, they will need to infiltrate the high ranks of Parisian society and the rebellion, which should offer plenty of dangerous situations.

In speaking to Elle, both Heughan and Balfe dished out some secrets about the coming season. For his part, Heughan revealed that fans can expect an entirely different look and feel in the second season of Outlander.

“It’s completely different than season one,” Heughan shared. “We’re in Paris, so there’s a completely different look to the show. The costumes look fantastic. It’s very ostentatious. The allies and the enemies are very different. There’s less people with swords and shields and more back-stabbings and politics.”

While Balfe agreed with Heughan on the new set designs, she added that Claire’s mission is multifaceted in the new season. Along with giving birth to her first child, Claire is trying to help Jamie work through the traumatic experience he suffered in Season 1.

In doing so, Balfe admitted that Claire will have a difficult season and that her character’s relationship with Jamie is going to put to the ultimate test. Luckily, the two will manage to make it through intact.

Meanwhile, given the shirtless photo of Jamie, the stars were also asked about more intimate scenes in the new season. With so many things happening in their lives, will Jamie and Claire have time to continue their passionate romance?

“Well, now they’re married,” Heughan told the outlet. “Claire is pregnant, and Jamie is suffering from the trauma of season one and what happened to him at the end. So their relationship is in a very strange place now. The honeymoon is kind of over. But that doesn’t mean they won’t get back there. They have a lot going on and they’re working on their relationship. Their relationship is less innocent and young. It’s now more grown up.”

Fortunately, Balfe added that fans can expect the same passion from Jamie and Claire as they witnessed in Season 1.

“That will always be a part of their relationship,” she said.

The new season of Outlander is expected to arrive in April on Starz.
