WWE News: ‘2015 NXT Year-End Awards’ Results–Bayley, Finn Balor Both Win Twice

While it didn’t come with the same pomp and circumstance as the 2015 WWE Slammy Awards that took place on Monday Night Raw a few weeks ago, the inaugural NXT Year-End Awards aired on Wednesday night as a part of 2016’s first new episode of WWE NXT on the WWE Network. Kept mostly under wraps until NXT was available to stream, there were six categories posted at WWE that the WWE Universe and NXT Universe could vote for.

With 2015 serving as something of a banner year for WWE’s developmental program, the competition in each category was stiff. Highlighting the greatest performers, match-ups and events of the year, anyone who made any kind of noise as part of NXT last year was up for a nomination. With her name appearing in four of the 10 Match of the Year candidates, Sasha Banks received a whopping seven nominations. Finn Bálor led the men with six nominations, while Kevin Owens and Bayley each had five.

In the end, there were no real surprises. As the final member of the Four Horsewomen still waiting to get called up to the main roster, Bayley’s popularity in NXT has soared over the last year. The NXT Universe’s favorite hugger has been the NXT Women’s Champion since her epic match with Sasha Banks at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn . The WWE Universe’s reaction to that match was so strong that Triple H put the ladies in a 30-minute Ironman Match as the main event of the next TakeOver event. Bayley took home the award for Female Competitor of the Year , and her NXT Women’s Championship Match from TakeOver: Brooklyn won Match of the Year . As you might expect, Brooklyn was voted the best TakeOver of the Year .

Finn Bálor was the only other NXT Superstar to take home more than one award. Having been voted the Overall Competitor of the Year, it only makes sense that he was also voted Male Competitor of the Year . Tag Team of the Year went to Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady. Despite never having won the NXT Tag Team Championship, they are arguably the most charismatic tag team in NXT’s young history — and you can’t… teach… that.
