Does Rihanna Really Owe Her Career To Beyoncé?
Rihanna and Beyoncé are the two biggest musical acts of the last ten years, even though Lady Gaga, Adele, and Katy Perry fans might argue. Beyoncé began her career in the late 1990s and has not slowed down one single bit. Rihanna started her career in the mid-2000s and even though her success has slowed down a little bit, her new album Anti is hotly anticipated.
Interestingly enough, Vanity Fair has written an article that claims Beyoncé may have a big part in helping Rihanna’s career take off. The article starts off by describing the connection between the two superstars.“Beyoncé and Rihanna have always seemed to have a somewhat complicated relationship. Jay Z, of course, is a pivotal figure in both of their lives, as husband to Beyoncé and the person who initially signed Rihanna.”
The article goes on to note that neither of them have collaborated on any songs. It claims that L.A. Reid was initially not interested in signing Rihanna to his record label, but Jay Z (who became president at the label) was pushing him to do so. Jay thought that Rihanna deserved more attention. However, it was Beyoncé who described Rihanna as “a beast” (in a good way) to both of them, which influenced Rihanna getting signed and becoming one of the biggest musical acts of the past 20 years.
Speaking of Beyoncé, she is scheduled to play the halftime show at the Super Bowl this year with Coldplay. Bey will likely be joining Coldplay on one song. Washington Blade has the news.
“Beyoncé has been officially confirmed to perform during Super Bowl 50’s halftime show. Last week Pepsi announced to the Associated Press that the singer would be joining the halftime show as a guest performer.”
The article adds that Coldplay is actually set to headline the show. Other guest performers will include Bruno Mars, and there will be more musicians expected to be announced in the coming weeks. It’s doubtful that one of the guests will be Rihanna, since she is busy preparing for her upcoming Anti World Tour.
Rihanna will begin her tour on February 26 at the Viejas Arena in San Diego, CA. Her tour will go though May. Unfortunately, it looks like tickets aren’t selling very fast, but that could change once the dates get closer. Meanwhile, according to the Source, Rihanna just filmed a video with Drake in Los Angeles.“Rumors are circulating that pop songstress Rihanna and rap music’s 2015 MVP Drake have reunited for a song entitled ‘Work’ off RiRi’s highly anticipated Anti project and the duo reportedly filmed the video in a popular Los Angeles mall.”
The Source adds that on January 7, a call sheet for “Work” surfaced online. It called for horseback riders, cops, and other roles. The reported shoot dates were January 8 and January 9. If this is the case, we should be seeing the video before the end of the month.
There is no word yet on Beyoncé’s new music, but there are rumors that she may actually release a joint album with Jay Z. Both artists will have to compete with new albums from Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Whose album are you looking most forward to in 2015 — Rihanna’s or Beyoncé’s? Let us know in the comments section.
