‘General Hospital’ Genie Francis Unveils 40-Pound Weight Loss, Gave Her A New Lease On Life — Read Her Story
General Hospital superstar Genie Francis, who portrays Laura Spencer, unveiled her weight loss success by slipping into a pair of skinny jeans. Francis revealed it was that moment when she realized she had conquered her weight demons and could do anything, whether it was weight loss or other life goals, reported ET on Monday.
Genie Francis become the ambassador for Nutrisystem in September of 2014 and revealed the weight loss program helped her shed 30 pounds. Genie looked healthier and more confident than she had in years. On January 11, Genie disclosed she had lost another 10 pounds, bringing her total weight loss to 40 pounds. The daytime actress looks trim, happy, and simply radiant.

Genie Francis told ET that at 14-years-old, her weight took center stage in a storyline on General Hospital. Francis revealed the plot was hard for her to understand as a young child because she felt like there was something wrong with her and her body. She revealed it was the difficult start of a lifelong battle with her weight.
“It was very hard for me as a very young girl to be put on a diet on TV. It made me very insecure. That’s how my body image began. I’ve been on every diet there is, every fad, crazy diet. I’ve been in pain and about my body and my weight all my life.”
Genie returned to General Hospital in 2015 after a long hiatus and returned to the soap opera looking more trim and radiant. Like other celebrities, such as Marie Osmond, she credited Nutrisystem to being the reason she was able to get control over her weight. Francis claimed Nutrisystem allowed her to lose weight without feeling hungry, which helped her finally get control over her poor eating habits. Genie said what had kept her from losing weight previously was anxiety about feeling starved or suffering to earn a thinner figure.
“The best thing about the program is that I’m more at peace with food than I have ever been in my lifetime.I am feeling more like my old self. I have more confidence, don’t dread getting dressed or being on camera and have much more energy.”
Genie Francis had a goal of fitting into skinny jeans without looking awkward in them, Serial Scoop reported. To her surprise, she recently met the goal. Francis decide on a whim to try on a pair of skinny jeans, and they fit. When she saw herself in a mirror, she was shocked to see this thin, tiny person in her body. It was a surreal experience for her.
Not only has Genie Francis taken control of her health, but she landed a huge contract on the ABC soap opera General Hospital. Finola Hughes and Genie inked a three-year contract, bringing their characters to the forefront. ABC executive producer Nathan Vani stated he wanted to bring the veteran characters in the front moving forward in 2016, and it looks like it may happen. Genie’s character, Laura, has moved slowly over the past few months, and TPTB at ABC reveal that she will continue to be a driving force on General Hospital.
Celeb Dirty Laundry speculated that Anthony Geary, who portrayed Luke Spencer, could pop in for a short stint in the coming months. Last year, Anthony retired and never told Laura goodbye before leaving Port Charles. For many, his departure was not well-written, and fans felt Anthony Geary deserved a proper send off after his decade-long run on the show. No one knows exactly what the writers have planned for Genie (or Anthony Geary possible return). However, it’s safe to say Genie Francis is ready, willing, and able to tackle weight loss and revive her daytime career, including winning another Emmy award.
