‘Star Wars’ Episode VIII Script Is Apparently Amazing And ‘Much Darker’ — Details Revealed
Now that the initial excitement for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has worn off, many fans are ready to sink their teeth into the next major project. You could get pumped for the Han Solo spin-off film that Lawrence Kasdan has been planning, or you could just learn all you can about the next installment in the next major Star Wars film.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega recently did an interview with Vogue, in which he revealed a few exciting details about Episode VIII. While he did admit that he already has to start keeping secrets about the next Star Wars film because they’ve already started working on it, he was at least able to reveal that the script is much darker this time around.
Boyega’s co-star, Daisy Ridley, has already reportedly bragged about how fantastic the Star Wars Episode VIII script is, calling it “very good, very good.”
John Boyega had to agree.
“We just starting work on ‘Star Wars VIII,’ the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again. It’s great. Much darker, but we’re very excited.”
While The Force Awakens was full of plenty of intense action and serious moments, it was also sprinkled with an abundance of humor. John Boyega’s character Finn delivered a lot of the films’ funniest lines. But it seems that the Star Wars follow-up will feature a lot less comedy and a lot more tension. In lieu of the jokes, it seems John Boyega will be delivering plenty of action sequences.
“For [Star Wars: The Force Awakens] we really just took it scene by scene, there wasn’t a huge regime,” John Boyega explained. “My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more.”
According to Coming Soon, one of the few definitive things that actually is known about Star Wars Episode VIII is that J.J. Abrams won’t be returning to the helm. Rian Johnson is slated to both write and direct the sequel. And it seems Johnson is already finished with the script, because J.J. Abrams has already read it and stated that he wishes he had written it himself.
The Washington Post reported that Greg Grunberg, who plays Snap Wexley in the new Star Wars films, claims Abrams regrets stepping down from Episode VIII.
“He read it and said something he never, ever says,” said Grunberg. “He said, ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it.’ ”
Rian Johnson is best known for the films Looper and Brick. He has been working on the script for Episode VIII for months now. When Star Wars: The Force Awakens was shooting, Abrams would apparently show Johnson early clips in order to help him produce the script for Episode VIII.The only other news about the script of Star Wars Episode VIII is a persistent rumor that Benicio Del Toro will be starring as the next major villain. But a recent post from the Inquisitr suggests that Del Toro may not be cast in Episode VIII after all, despite his confidence.
Star Wars Episode VIII will be produced by Ram Bergman and Kathleen Kennedy, and is slated to hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
Are you excited for Star Wars Episode VIII? What did you think of The Force Awakens? Are you glad the next installment will be darker, or did you like the humor of the first film?
