The mid-season finale of Arrow left fans with one emotional cliffhanger. Not only did Oliver Queen ( Stephen Amell ) finally propose to Felicity Smoak ( Emily Bett Rickards ), but the episode ended with Felicity’s life in danger. With the second half of Season 4 just around the corner, a few leaked photos from the set may have revealed Felicity’s fate.
According to iDigital Times , the last episode featured Felicity and Oliver enjoying their first moments together as an engaged couple while Damien Darhk sent his men to pay Oliver a visit. A few bullets struck Felicity in the subsequent shootout, and the character was last seen bleeding out on the side of the couple’s limo.
With Felicity’s fate up in the air, recent photos released on Twitter reveal that Felicity survived the ordeal, only with a slight twist. Based on the photos, which show Rickards sitting in what looks like a wheelchair, Felicity might be paralyzed after shootout with Darhk’s men.
While this is yet to be confirmed, there is some precedent in the comics for a paralyzed character in the Arrow universe. According to Movie Pilot , this includes a character named Barbara Gordon/Oracle, who happens to be a computer whiz confined to a wheelchair. Does this mean that the series is setting up Felicity to become the Oracle?
The character of Felicity Smoak is actually not mentioned in the DC comics. Not only has this fact led to plenty of speculation regarding her character, but it also gives the writers plenty of freedom with Felicity. So far, this has included matching her up with Oliver. Now, based on the photos, it is a possibility that the show has the Oracle’s storyline in mind for Felicity’s future.
In the comics, Oracle’s back story has more than one similarity with Felicity’s. In fact, the two are both geniuses when it comes to computers, and both suffered serious injuries after being shot. With the show yet to introduce Oracle, fans might see Felicity become the character when the season returns later this month.
That being said, it doesn’t seem likely that Arrow would keep Felicity in a wheelchair for the remainder of the series. This is especially true considering how the romance between Oliver and Felicity has been a major story in the series throughout its run. In fact, the wheelchair could be a temporary thing as Felicity recovers from her wounds.
Either way, it is definitely good to get some confirmation that Felicity will be back. After all, Arrow would not be the same without Felicity, especially now that she and Oliver are finally engaged.
Apart from the news that Felicity is back in action, the rest of Season 4 will also include some interesting developments for John Diggle (David Ramsey). According to Carter Matt , the recent revelations regarding John’s quest to avenge his brother sets the character up for a major fight with Darhk by the season’s end.
Based on the synopsis for the January 27 installment, titled “AWOL,” trust is going to be a big issue between John and his recently rescued brother, Andy (Eugene Byrd). Furthermore, John will be dealing with Shadowspire after one of its agents is spotted in Star City. How this complicates John’s relationship with his brother is yet to be seen.
At the same time, Oliver will be facing some major adjustments to his life. Does these changes have something to do with Felicity? Or will Oliver be facing a different kind of threat from Darhk as the season continues to unfold?
The second half of Season 4 of Arrow is set to begin January 20 on The CW.
