Seohyun Of Girls’ Generation Has Been Cast In ‘Moon Lovers’ As Royalty
Girls’ Generation is often recognized as the best K-pop idol girl group in the industry today. When it comes to solo endeavors, however, two of its members stand out when it comes to K-drama acting. The first member is Yoona. Since 2007, she’s been in eight dramas. In four of those dramas, Yoona had lead roles: You Are My Destiny, Cinderella Man, Love Rain, and probably her most-popular role to date, Prime Minister and I. The second member with a strong acting career is Sooyoung. She is not far behind when compared to Yoona. She’s been in seven K-dramas and played the lead in The 3rd Hospital, Dating Agency: Cyrano, and My Spring Days. Both Yoona and Sooyoung will be established in Korean television long after their K-pop idol group days are over.
However, now it seems more Girls’ Generation members are thinking of pursuing a career in acting. For example, Yuri has taken her first lead role in the upcoming K-drama Local Hero. There are also reports that Seohyun will play the role of a princess in the upcoming K-drama Moon Lovers.
Specifically, Seohyun will play the role of Woo Hee, the last princess of the Hoobaekjae Dynasty, as reported by KpopHerald, From what is known about the script, circumstances force Woo Hee to become a palace kisaeng who dances beautifully like an angel from heaven. Little else is known about Seohyun’s character. As for the K-drama, it is known to be based off of the Chinese novel Bu Bu Jin Xin by Tong Hua. Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) will be producing it. Kim Kyu Tae, a well-known director recognized for directing past hit K-dramas like That Winter, The Wind Blows, and Iris, will be the one behind the camera.
Seohyun is taking this role with some acting experience. Back in 2013, Seohyun took on her first acting gig in the K-drama Passionate Love(see the video above). She played the character Han Yoo Rim, the love of Kang Moo Yeol (the male lead character played by Sung Hoon). As the plot continues, Yoo Rim passes away, which in turn sets up the rest of the K-drama. Seohyun may have only played a character in five episodes, but she played a vital role.
Just like Seohyun’s first acting gig, her role as Woo Hee is a supporting role once more, as reported by KpopStarz. Popular K-pop soloist IU (Producers) will play the female lead of Hae Soo, a girl living in modern day Seoul who suddenly travels back in time to find herself in the Goryeo Dynasty. Lee Joon Gi (The King and the Clown) will play Wang So, the fourth Prince of the Goryeo Dynasty. Rounding out the main cast, Kang Ha Neul (Angel Eyes) will play Wang Wook, the eighth Prince of the Goryeo Dynasty. As a side note, Baekhyun of popular K-pop idol boy group EXO will make his acting debut as Wang Hyun, the 10th Prince of the Goryeo Dynasty.
Moon Lovers, also known as Startling by Each Step: Ryo, is currently in pre-production. It is estimated to be a total of 20 episodes and will air sometime in September.
