Nom Nom Nom. Joey Chestnut Wins Sixth Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Joey Chestnut is a hot dog eating machine! The competitive food eating champion won his sixth championship on the 4th of July while competing in the annual Nathan’s hot dog eating competition.
Chestnut who won $10,000 tied his world record by scarfing down a gut wrenching (at least for normal people) 68 hot dogs.
Known as Joey “Jaws” Chestnut the competitive eating champ not only destroyed his competition, he tied legendary Takeru Kobayashi’s record streak fort he most annual victory’s in a row.
Finishing in second place behind Joey Chestnut was Eater X who scarfed down 52.25 hot dogs. In third place on the men’s side was Deep Dish Bertoletti who gobbled down a still impressive 51 hot dogs and buns.
On the women’s side a familiar face took the chow down trophy as Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas bested last years record with 41 hot dogs and buns. Falling into second place on the women’s side was Juliet Lee who scored a personal best of 33 hot dogs.
The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is becoming less a competition among various competitors and more a personal challenge for professional eaters who want to take down Joey Chestnut and Sonya Thomas.
$10,000 isn’t a lot for a nationally televised sporting event, but let’s be honest, this is hardly a sport, regardless of what organizers want to call it.
Do you actually take the time to watch the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest every year? It might not be the Super Bowl but it’s definitely gluttony at its best.
