Liam Neeson Talks About His Wedding To Late Wife Natasha Richardson
It’s been a tough time for Liam Neeson since the 2009 death of his wife, Natasha Richardson. Over the past two years he’s opened up about Natasha’s death, which happened after the actress suffered a brain hemorrhage following a skiing accident in Quebec.
Now, Neeson opened up about one of the most intimate details of their marriage: the day of their wedding. In an interview with Radio Andy, the Taken actor spoke about his wife, who he was married to for fifteen years until her death.
He spoke of their 1994 wedding day, which included a surprise performance of their wedding song, by Van Morrison. The song was titled “Crazy Love” and Richardson sang the song to Neeson and their guests, which was even a surprise to the actor himself.
“Behind my back, Natasha had been taking singing lessons to sing it to me. After the ceremony we were all going out to start the night’s festivities and she grabbed the microphone and she sang me this.”

Neeson was floored by the surprise performance by his late wife and said of his reaction, “I was like, ‘Wow!'”
This isn’t the first time he has spoken about Natasha, but this was the first time he’s spoken of her happily. The last time we heard Liam Neeson speak about his wife was when he was recounting the hours right before she passed away. Back in 2014, the actor told Anderson Cooper of his last moments with the 45-year-old actress.
“I went in to her and told her I loved her. Said, ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You’ve banged your head. It’s—I don’t know if you can hear me, but that’s—this is what’s gone down and we’re bringing ya back to New York. All your family and friends will come.”
Since then, Neeson has tried to find love again, but as of 2014 he’s given that up as well as drinking. At the time, he told GQ that he had started to heavily drink after his wife died, but has since decided to stop.
“Pinot Noir: That’s all I drink. I was never into spirits or liquor, hard liquor. And I gave up the Guinness years ago, because it just – past an age, it sticks to you, you know? So last year, I just thought – they’ve been throwing these action movies at me, and I thought, ‘Okay, let’s just change it a little bit.’ And it’s been great. I love it.”
As for finding love again, he says that he’s giving up on dating, and that he’s keeping to himself and he likes it like that. He says he isn’t a male cougar and that he’s focusing on raising his two boys (aged 17 and 18 in 2014). He’s also had a pretty active career thanks to the Taken series making him a bonafide action star.
Of his wife, he said that he goes to visit where she’s buried once or twice a week to talk to her. Her tombstone says, “grit and grace.”

The last time Liam Neeson hit the news, it was over his very frail appearance. People were worried about him based on recent photographs that surfaced of the actor looking frail. He went on to explain that it’s for his upcoming Martin Scorsese film with Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield. Neeson told Collider that the “intimidating” director wanted everyone to look gaunt.
