Bristol Palin Baby Custody Drama Escalates: Dakota Meyer ‘Wanted Nothing To Do’ With Bristol’s Pregnancy, Sarah Palin Says
Bristol Palin’s baby custody drama is growing by the day. Dakota Meyer, Bristol’s ex-fiancé, claims he’s the father of Sailor and is now seeking custody and child support. This breaking headline was reported by TMZ on Tuesday.
According to Radar Online, the legal documents filed state that Meyer requests to be “granted legal and physical custody the minor child.” It adds that Bristol Palin has 20 days to respond to the court’s summons.
Sarah Palin spoke with ET and told the entertainment news site that before her daughter gave birth, Dakota Meyer wanted “nothing to do” with her or the pregnancy.
“For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers [sic] and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol’s pregnancy or the baby,” Palin said.
The former Republican vice presidential candidate went to say that the most important thing to the Palin family is the “health and welfare of Sailor Grace.” She said her daughter’s ex is trying to “save face.”
It seems a lot of baby drama has settled over Bristol Palin. In an Instagram post she wrote earlier this week, Bristol squashed rumors that she gave birth to Sailor a month early, saying she didn’t deliver her newborn on November 4, but on December 22. She posted two photos that are now deleted from her page. One was of her medical bracelet with the date 12/23/15, and a split photo showed her in the hospital with her mother.Bristol captioned the photos with: “For all the people saying I gave birth 11/4/15 … here is my IV that was started on 12/22/15 when I was admitted, my baby girl was born 12/23/15 stop trying to create controversy where none exists, desperation is the ugliest thing.”
It’s unclear who accused Bristol Palin of having her baby a month earlier than she actually did — or why they believed she did. It’s also a mystery as to why she removed the post since she was defending herself.
Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer became engaged in March, 2015. One week before their wedding was to take place, they split up. A month later, Bristol announced that she was pregnant. In all that time, she never disclosed who the father was. She kept it a secret, but the public had suspicions it was Meyer, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient in the Marine Corps.
Soon after Bristol gave birth, Dakota broke from out his radio silence. He went to social media and posted his own congratulatory message to Bristol that hinted to everyone he’s the dad.
On Instagram and Twitter, he posted a photo of baby Sailor with the caption: “Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn’t be more proud of this little blessing.”

It’s strange that Bristol wouldn’t reveal that Dakota Meyer is the father. She hasn’t officially confirmed whether or not he is. In some ways, it’s like a soap opera, in which one of the characters has a baby, but the audience is left wondering who the father is. Surely Bristol Palin knows who her baby daddy is, but for whatever reason wants to keep that major detail to herself. She knows everyone is assuming, and maybe she’s hoping that people should put 2 and 2 together, which would mean she shouldn’t have to say who the father is.
How far will this baby drama go revolving around Sailor Grace? Will things get ugly with Dakota Meyer seeking joint legal and physical custody of the baby he claims to be his daughter?
Bristol Palin has dealt with other custody battles when it comes to ex, Levi Johnston, over their 7-year-old son, Tripp.
