WWE Rumors: Bill Goldberg Once Again Talks A Return To Wrestling
Bill Goldberg hasn’t really seriously competed in a wrestling ring since WrestleMania XX, and now, over a decade later, he’s still discussing a return. He’s been the subject of so many different rumors — mostly about making a return to WWE — but will it ever happen? The 49-year-old star still thinks it is possible, and one never knows in the world of wrestling.
One of the latest rumors going around is that WWE was planning on having Bill Goldberg take on Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 32. Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE television was just announced by the company last night, but Goldberg would still need to be brought in.
WrestleMania 32 is less than four months away, and the build-up needs to begin soon. If Goldberg is going to make a return to WWE and face off with Lesnar or anyone at the big event, then negotiations had better be all but 100 percent done.
As What Culture states, there are a number of things that WWE would want fans to forget about Bill Goldberg. One of those is his final match with the company, which was against Lesnar at WrestleMania XX and was one of the worst received matches in wrestling history.
Even though that final wrestling appearance wasn’t the greatest, not to mention the fact that he’s not getting any younger, Goldberg still has aspirations. He always said he wanted his son to have a chance to see him live in the ring, but there is more to it.
In an interview with WrestleZone Radio, Goldberg primarily promoted his appearance at Legends of Wrestling coming later this month in Miami. Still, he talked about possibly returning to the ring one day and said there’s always a chance.
“I took 9 weeks off of the gym and my Muay Thai training. I just turned 49 years old. In the past 4 days I’ve been back in the gym twice doing Muay Thai training and I’ve trained for the last 3 nights lifting. Age is just a number. I can go in there with pro fighters and have a great time. We got this Legends of Wrestling coming up on the 23rd and I’m gonna do some sparring with King Mo. So to completely close the book on it because of my physical condition, I don’t think that’s ever gonna happen. But because of how I look at it mentally, the clocks ticking. I said in an interview 115 years ago I’d never be that wrestler who wrestled into his 40’s, well that was 9 clicks ago. I don’t think there’s too much of a realistic possibility of me doing it but hey man I’m not gonna close the door on it.
“Look at what happened at the Legends of Wrestling event at Citi Field. I had absolutely no intent to deliver a jackhammer… however long it’s been since I’ve done one at WrestleMania, which is the last time I’ve done it. But being in the middle of the moment, and boys will be boys, I was called out, so who knows. Strangers things have happened.”
Goldberg went on to say that King Mo has a great passion for wrestling and has a big desire to become a professional wrestler. As for himself, it certainly seems as if Goldberg is ready to get back in the ring, perform at a high level, and deliver another few dozen Jackhammers to others.
In order for Goldberg to be back in WWE and appear at WrestleMania 32, he’s going to have to make his return very soon. The Royal Rumble is coming up very soon, and it’s well known that WWE loves to throw a lot of surprises into that match so the former World Champion with a very long undefeated streak could show up.
Then again, with all the talk of AJ Styles and other NJPW stars appearing in WWE soon, the company may hold off on a possible Goldberg return. That is, if one is even coming.
Bill Goldberg has already said in the past that a return to WWE is possible as long as it’s good for him and good for them. He obviously doesn’t want to give up wrestling just yet, and if he’s going to really make it worthwhile, then another meeting with WWE may need to happen.
