‘The Flash’ Spoilers: How Is Robbie Amell Appearing As Ronnie Raymond Again?
Are you ready to see more of Earth-Two in The Flash Season 2? That’s what’s coming up when the CW series returns from its midseason hiatus, as seen in the video preview released by the network and as teased with a report of a certain returning actor.
The beginning of The Flash Season 2 has featured glimpse of Earth-Two, as Zoom has been sending metahumans through the breach to, as Harry realized in the midseason finale, get The Flash faster, stronger, more full of speed force. The more power he has, the more Zoom can take, and the demon speedster enlists Earth-Two’s Harrison Wells to help him after letting him see his daughter briefly.
The official synopsis is out for the midseason premiere, “Potential Energy,” as posted by ComicBook.com, and it teases more Wally West and the possibility of Patty finding out Barry’s secret.
“JOE AND IRIS GET TO KNOW WALLY — Now that they’ve grown closer, Barry (Grant Gustin) considers telling Patty (guest star Shantel VanSanten) that he is The Flash. Meanwhile, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Iris (Candice Patton) try to get to know Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale), and the team hunts down a meta-human who can slow time itself. Rob Hardy directed the episode written by Bryan Q. Miller.”
The CW has released a promo for the series’ midseason return (January 18 at 8 p.m.), and it looks like a trip to Earth-Two may be in store for Barry and Cisco (with Harry). Zoom seems to take Patty from right in front of Barry – will this be how she finds out he’s The Flash? – and it’s hard to imagine that the warning to not “get distracted by anything [they] see along the way” could mean anything but a trip to an Earth they’re not familiar with, but as Cisco puts it, “What are we going to see?” Is that Barry with Earth-Two Iris, and perhaps she realizes he’s not her Barry? Plus, Caitlin is Killer Frost. (“It’s so much fun to be bad.”)
But what else is coming up on Earth-Two in the second half of the season? Well, as Entertainment Weekly has reported, Robbie Amell is returning as Ronnie Raymond – on Earth-Two, that is. In The Flash Season 2 premiere, a flashback to the events of the Season 1 finale showed that it was because Firestorm separated in the middle of the singularity that Central City still stood — but in doing so, Ronnie died. (And this was so soon after he and Caitlin had finally gotten married.) Since then, Professor Stein has found a new match in Jefferson “Jax” Jackson, and both Victor Garber and Franz Drameh are part of the upcoming spin-off, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
With that promo already showing Caitlin as Killer Frost, it’s not too surprising that on Earth-Two, Ronnie is not exactly the same Ronnie as people will remember, as executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has revealed.
“We are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash. You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.”
That won’t be a surprise to fans of the comics, as Ronnie does become Deathstorm after his resurrection. And with, as previously noted, Caitlin also on the villainous side on Earth-Two, fans who liked those two together might be pleased to find out that they are together and, as EW calls them, “definitely a force to be reckoned with” in their villainous personas of Killer Frost and Deathstorm.
Amell has already been seen on set filming — and wearing a familiar costume — as seen in a photo tweeted by Canadagraphs before the “how” of his return had been revealed.
