It’s been reported that Christoph Waltz will return for further James Bond films after making his debut in the franchise in Spectre. But there’s one caveat. Because it’s been alleged that Christoph Waltz will only do so if Daniel Craig decides to return to the James Bond world though.
It’s still not known if Daniel Craig will return for a fifth James Bond film, following his appearances in Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall , and Spectre , but there are hopes that the actor will stick around for further adventures. Especially since his James Bond films have been so successful.
There are majors spoilers ahead for Spectre, so those of you that haven’t seen the latest installment to the James Bond series probably shouldn’t read ahead. That’s unless you actually want the film ruined for you. If that’s the case then have at it.
Are they gone? Good. That’s because a source for the Daily Star, via Comic Book , has insisted that the Austrian born German actor is very much interested in returning as the character Blofeld in further Bond films, though only if Daniel Craig is there.
“Christoph could make a brilliant ongoing man for Bond to battle like in the old days,” the insider told the aforementioned publication. “But the important clincher of it is that Blofeld can only work with Daniel back in the role to keep continuity.”
The last we saw of Blofeld in Spectre , the villain had been arrested by Ralph Fiennes’ M after Daniel Craig’s Bond had shot down his helicopter, which then subsequently crashed onto Westminster Bridge. Blofeld was able to get out of the wreckage, but rather than being killed by Craig’s hero, he was instead left to be incarcerated. Daniel Craig’s Bond then left the scene with Lea Seydoux’s Dr. Madeleine Swann.
Some interpreted this as Daniel Craig leaving behind the James Bond franchise for good, while others are hopeful that the 47-year-old will return for another James Bond flick, believing that this would be a lackluster way to end his tenure as the famed spy.
However, Daniel Craig’s comments regarding his James Bond future have suggested that he really doesn’t want to return as 007. Not only has Craig received numerous injuries while shooting his antics as James Bond, but he’s insisted that he doesn’t even know if the powers in control of the series would want him back.
Craig admitted to the Daily Mail earlier this year that he is contracted for one more movie as James Bond, explaining to the publication, “I’m contracted for one more – but I’m not going to make predictions.”
Craig then remarked in the same interview that it’s getting ever harder for him to play Bond, as he explained, “It’s getting harder, but such is life. I’ll keep going as long as I’m physically able.”
And while some people believe that Craig’s dilly-dallying over his James Bond future could be interpreted as disrespectful, he insists that he’s very happy to have had the opportunity to play the spy over four films, and he’s OK to pass it on to new blood.
“I remember saying, ‘If this is the last thing I do in my career, then that would be OK,’ because come on, “Craig enthused, “it’s not that bad a role to have under your belt.”
