K-Drama Stars Of ‘Kill Me, Heal Me’ Ji Sung And Park Seo Joon Win Best Couple Award At ‘2015 MBC Drama Awards’
Usually around this time of year, Korean broadcasting stations hold their annual awards show, honoring what was best and most-memorable in K-dramas within the past year. On Wednesday, December 30, 2015, the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) held their 2015 MBC Drama Awards. Needless to say but selecting winners from MBC’s list of K-dramas would surely be a task, especially with ones that are extremely popular like Warm and Cozy (a.k.a. Jeju Island Gatsby), Scholar Who Walks the Night, Iron Lady Cha, and the second-best K-drama of the year across all broadcasting stations, She Was Pretty. One of the awards presented at the 2015 MBC Drama Awards was for best couple. There were plenty of contenders for the honor, but it went to a more liberal pairing. This year, the Best Couple Award went to Ji Sung and Park Seo Joon for their uniquely weird relationship they played on Kill Me, Heal Me. For those who are unfamiliar with the unique K-drama, AsianWiki provides the following details that lead up to why Ji Sung and Park Seo Joon won the award. Cha Do Hyun (Sung) is a wealthy businessman who suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID). One of his personalities is Ahn Yo Na, a mischievous 17-year-old girl who loves idols. Yo Na also has a crush on Oh Ri On (Seo Joon). Apparently, Yo Na is very persistent in having Ri On and will do anything to have him. What makes matters worse is that Ri On is friends with Do Hyun, or any of the male personalities who take control at the time. When Yo Na appears however, Ri On finds himself running away from a man who thinks he is a teenage girl. What probably gave the relationship between Cha Do Hyun and Oh Ri On credence to that of a couple is the unscripted turn Ji Sung and Park Seo Joon took their characters, as reported by KdramaStars. During one scene, Sung improvised a kiss, catching Seo Joon by surprise. Seo Joon’s acting was amazing too. He made Ri On’s anguish and disdain believable as he went down to his knees crying after realizing he was kissed by another man. In short, Sung and Seo Joon created a moment that K-drama fans will never forget. For those who want to see the famous scene from Kill Me, Heal Me, it is attached in the video below. Soompi followed-up on Ji Sung and Park Seo Joon winning the Best Couple Award by detailing what happened at the awards show itself. Both actors were very surprised they won the award especially Seo Joon who shows disbelief. Both actors then get up, shake hands, and go up on stage to present their acceptance speeches. After that, both share a hug on stage expressing their devotion as actors and friends. As for the K-drama Kill Me, Heal Me itself, it dominated at the 2015 MBC Drama Awards. Besides the Best Couple Award, Ji Sung also won the Top Excellence Award for Actor in a Miniseries, and the Grand Prize (Daesung) Award. As for Park Seo Joon, he won the Excellence Award Actor in a Miniseries and the Popularity Award for an Actor. Hwang Jung Eum, who played the main female character Oh Ri Jin, won the PD Choice Award, Top Excellence Award for Actress in a Miniseries, and the Popularity Actress Award. All three actors won Top 10 Stars Awards. Finally, Kill Me, Heal Me won the Drama of the Year Award. Kill Me, Heal Me originally aired from January 7 to March 12, 2015, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:55 p.m. KST.
