Miss Universe Shows Class With Public Message To Miss Colombia

Miss Universe was crowned – and then the crown was given to the right person. That’s right. When the Miss Universe winner was announced at the pageant on Sunday, December 20, the pageant host, Steve Harvey, messed up big time. He announced the wrong winner and Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, was briefly crowned before things were set right. The crown ultimately went to Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

While Miss Colombia was clearly and rightly upset, she handled it with grace, and Miss Universe is certainly sympathetic to her situation. People reports that Miss Universe recognized and acknowledged Miss Colombia in an Instagram post she made recently. The post explains how grateful she is and how amazing Ariadna is.

“To Ariadna, you are an amazing woman and we are now bonded together forever by a unique experience. In the last 3 weeks we were together, I saw how strong and beautiful you are inside and out. You represented your country with honor and I know how proud everyone must be of you. Fate has a plan for you, and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”

Miss Universe also had a message to fans of the pageant.

“To all the fans who are still fighting about this… Please let’s all stop now. The Miss Universe Organization is about uniting empowered women from all over the world. Arguing and sending hateful messages to each other defeats the whole purpose.”

As for Steve Harvey, his incredible mess up in crowning the wrong Miss Universe hasn’t stopped him from finding the humor in it. News Australia reports that Harvey recently posted on Twitter saying, “Merry Easter y’all.”

So many fans replied to Harvey’s tweet and showed him their full support, including J.A. Adande of ESPN.

“The rest of you can meme all you want. Steve Harvey won 2015.”

The Economic Times had their own opinion on the mess up with Miss Universe. Dr. D. was not kind, bringing Donald Trump into the equation.

“I do not know what planet you live on. You were so embarrassing that Donald Trump said if he had continued his association with Miss Universe, it wouldn’t have been this bad. Anything that can actually be improved with the addition of Donald Trump has got to be pretty awful. I suggest you take your job seriously if you expect to be paid for it, just as you should take the girls seriously. There is a place for clowns in this, but it is not as master of ceremony.”

As for Miss Universe herself, she is already enjoying her title and all that comes with it, including being made into a Pia Doll. Yes, according to GMA News Online, the doll is already available for purchase. Check it out.

And it isn’t even the first Pia doll to come out. Fan Ian Mendajar said there are three previously released dolls, all with different outfits from different times during her quest for the crown.

The Philippines is certainly proud of their Pia winning the title of Miss Universe. Fortunately, Miss Colombia is also taking this all in stride and rising to the occasion. People reports that she feels this was her destiny.

“Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this. I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes.”

What a wonderful, glass-half-full way to look at the situation. And to Miss Universe, congratulations to you and enjoy your time in the spotlight. You deserve it!
