‘Grimm’ Spoilers: Trubel’s Cool New Motorcycle, The Wesen Revolutionary, And Nick And Adalind’s Relationship
There’s a lot going on in Grimm Season 5 right now, which means when the series returns next month (on January 29, a week later than the originally scheduled January 22), there’s a lot that needs to be dealt with in the coming weeks. Sure, there’s the matter of Bitsie Tulloch’s return as Eve (who is nothing like Juliette even though she has her memories), but there’s so much more going on as well.
Tulloch’s return wasn’t the only one in Grimm Season 5 leading up to the midseason break. Jacqueline Toboni returned as well, as Trubel showed up at Nick’s doorstep needing his – and much more importantly, medical – help. A hospital visit and a few hiccups/attempts on her life later, and she was back at Nick and Adalind’s new place. Once conscious, she was able to show off a bit of what her new ride, a customized motorcycle, can do, thanks to Hadrian’s Wall.
While Nick and the audience got a look at some of the cool upgrades to that motorcycle, however, don’t expect things to get too wild or too big when it comes to what it can do. Series creator David Greenwalt told TVLine that there’s only so much they can do with it due to the budget.
“It’s expensive and cumbersome, the things that we want to do with that sleek bike. There’ll be a little bit of it, but there won’t be the big, James Bond-like action sequences that we envisioned when we created it.”
Also coming up in the second half of Grimm Season 5 is the Wesen war – but first, there are some pieces that need to come together. Somewhere in that tangled web is the Wesen revolutionary, Lucien Petrovich (Bailey Chase), who will first show up in the midseason premiere, “The Return,” at the end of January. According to Greenwalt, it sounds like even those on his side need to be careful around him because he’s willing to let them lose their lives if it comes to that.
“He’s a pure believer, but he’s got a streak of deviousness in him and he can’t really be trusted, even by his own people. He’ll be around a little bit.”
This season has also seen Nick and Adalind move in together as they figure out how exactly to raise their baby together, given their complicated history. But it seems like the past is slowly becoming just that (the past), as they are getting along and even sleeping in the same bed. It looks like that’s going to continue into territory that may have them as more than just roommates/becoming friends/parents together, as seen in the photo below from Grimm Season 5’s midseason return.
In an interview with TVLine, Greenwalt said that Nick and Adalind’s relationship will “have a life of its own without the Juliette/Eve [aspect], because they have a kid,” with Grimm co-creator James Kouf adding that “there’s a lot of other complicated things that are going on that will determine how that relationship works out.”
After all, how exactly do you handle having a kid with the woman who posed as your girlfriend, slept with you, got pregnant, and had a role in what happened to your girlfriend that led to her death/return as a woman who is nothing like who she was? Complicated doesn’t even seem to begin to cover what’s going on with Nick, Eve/Juliette, and Adalind.
While Eve is going to show up in every episode now that Tulloch is back on the screen on Grimm, Kouf did tease that it won’t “necessarily [be] as part of the gang,” meaning there’s a lot that’s going to be going on there. She may have all of Juliette’s memories, but “to her, Juliette’s dead,” Greenwalt explained, which is why “she’s just a completely different person who doesn’t even relate to Juliette,” as will be seen in “a big scene with Nick in Episode 7.” That should make any future reaction she may have to what’s going on with Nick and Adalind quite interesting.
Grimm Season 5 returns Friday, January 29 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
