WWE Rumors: Updated Card For ‘Royal Rumble’ 2016 — Rumored Matches
There is one month until the Royal Rumble on Jan. 24, 2016, and WWE has yet to announce a single match for one of the most entertaining pay-per-views of each year. Still, lots of feuds are building and the rumors are flying on what matches will be included on the card and who may end up being a participant in the rumble match itself.
There is not a single match announced for the PPV so far, but a few are being built toward. First of all, it truly does seem as if there will be a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Title with Dean Ambrose defending against Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler.
After Ambrose won the title from Owens, it was expected that the two would continue their feud and build toward a rematch. Then, they both started having matches with Ziggler and the “Showoff” got thrown into the mix which is leading toward a Triple Threat.
As reported by Cageside Seats, there is very little direction throughout the rest of the company and it isn’t even known what the match for the WWE Title will be.
Roman Reigns is the current WWE Champion and he’s going to have to defend his title at the Royal Rumble, but against who? Some believe it may be another match with Sheamus, but not much has been pointing in that direction.
A lot more could be known after tomorrow’s Monday Night Raw which will see the return of Vince McMahon. It’s likely that a program will begin for Reigns tomorrow night and the title match for the PPV may even end up being announced.
John Cena is also returning to WWE television tomorrow night at Raw, and it’s rumored that he will go after Alberto Del Rio. That could lead to a feud picking up again for these two and culminating at the Royal Rumble for the United States Title.
Bray Wyatt is teasing a lot of big things coming at the Royal Rumble, so expect The Wyatt Family to be a big part of it all. That could lead to Luke Harper and Erick Rowan going after the WWE Tag Team Titles which are currently held by The New Day, and have been for most of 2015.
One other match being hinted at is over the Divas Championship, but who Charlotte defends against is also a bit hazy. It seems like WWE is leading toward a full-on heel turn for the champion and then having her face Becky Lynch for the title, but they haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet.
WWE.com has released a preview of the big rumble match, but it’s nothing more than the simple rules and a brief history.
“Perhaps the single most anticipated bout of the year, the Royal Rumble Match is utterly unique for its scale, rules and major stakes. Prior to the match, all 30 competitors draw their entry number randomly. The Superstars who draw Nos. 1 and 2 begin the bout, and a new Superstar joins the fray every 90 seconds until all 30 Superstars have entered the ring. The only way to be eliminated is to be thrown over the top rope and to the outside, with both feet touching the floor.”
As always, there are surprise entrants into the match for nostalgia purposes and even some big returns for the PPV as well. There have been rumors flying around that Brock Lesnar is going to have a big role at the Royal Rumble or maybe even enter the 30-person battle royale.
The Royal Rumble is a fun event and WWE really puts a lot into it as it officially starts the “Road to WrestleMania.” No matches are official, but the build-up is going to begin in full force tomorrow and lead to possible announcements soon.
