Joey Feek Cancer Update: Rory Shares Photo Of Joey And Indiana Ornament As They Celebrate Christmas
The holiday season is always a very magical time of year. Families gather together, eat way too much food, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company (for the most part). The children are preparing for Santa Claus’s arrival, and are playing with their newest gifts, while the parents rest from all of their Christmas shopping. Although it can be hectic, the holidays are a time to relax and reflect on the past year.
For the Feek family, this Christmas is extra special, not just because they are getting and receiving gifts, or eating delicious food, but because Joey Feek is still here to celebrate with them.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Joey Feek was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer in 2014, three months after giving birth to her daughter, Indiana (Indy). She later underwent a radical hysterectomy and rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. It appeared as though Joey was going to beat cancer, but a mid-October scan revealed that her cancer had not only returned, but had spread to other parts of her body, including her colon. Because Joey’s cancer was continuing to spread rapidly, and was becoming more aggressive, there was nothing left for the doctors to do. Yes, she could continue radiation and chemotherapy, but it would only buy her time, not the cure she had been so desperately hoping and, more importantly, praying for.
Following the news that her cancer had returned, Joey made the most difficult decision of her life. She said enough is enough, and decided to stop treatment and enter hospice care. Joey, her husband and duet partner, Rory, and Indiana all returned to their home so Joey could live out her final days, however many that may be, surrounded by those she loves the most.
Since Joey’s diagnosis, Rory has been documenting her battle with cancer on his blog, This Life I Live, and on their Facebook page. On Thursday, December 24 (Christmas Eve), Rory shared a photo on Facebook that showed an ornament with Joey and Indiana’s picture in it on their Christmas tree. He captioned the photo by saying: “’twas the day before Christmas.”
On Wednesday, December 23, Rory shared another update, revealing that January would make eight years since the country music duo won CMT’s singing competition, Can You Duet.“In January, it will be 8 years since Joey and I auditioned for, and appeared on CMT’s Can You Duet,” Feek wrote. “We had no idea at the time how much it would change our lives. What a wonderful blessing. Almost as wonderful as the special video Christmas card we received last night from some of the cast and crew members who got together to brighten my wife’s Christmas. It truly did! Thank you my friends. Merry Christmas.”

To honor their fellow competitors and friends, the former cast and crew members of the show shared a heartwarming video of them singing “It Must Be Christmas.” At the end of the video, each person spoke into the camera, offering their best wishes for Joey and Rory and wishing them a very Merry Christmas. Those who appeared in the video include David Oakleaf, Nick Brownell, Caitlynn Lynn, Meghan Linsey, Julia Salter, Margaret and Garrett Smith, Ryan Larkin, Will Snyder, Marylynne and Brad Stella, Sixwire, Mike King, Tom Zaleski, Doug Forbes, Larry Boothby, and Jeremiah Richey.
The Feeks have already been celebrating Christmas for a little over a week now. Last week, Rory shared a blog post, titled “santa baby,” where he revealed Santa Claus had arrived a bit early this year.
“The Kris Kringle that showed up at our door wasn’t your ordinary shopping-mall Santa,” Rory wrote. “This one was the real deal … or as close to it as I’ve ever personally seen. He had the real beard, the real belly, and on top of that he had the kindest smile and a heart for special babies and mama’s with no hair … I loved him from the moment I met him.”[Photo via This Life I Live]
